Ryan Kalish, the guy they got 283 overall has been compared to Trot Nixon.

One of the main reasons why he is compared to Nixon(besides the skills is because he has made a commitment to play football in college(like Nixon). But, the Sox were able to show him the money(I think it is around 500,000-700,000) and he will sign with them. Place and Kalish could form a bond, while moving up the system together, in the outfield.

Here are some good interviews with Jason McLeod(Director of Amateur Scouting) about the draft, via Red Sox Nation.

since UNC is going to the super regionals, anyone know when bard is pitching?

i presume miller friday, bard saturday?

Bard is pitching today against Alabama. The game will either be on ESPN2 or ESPNU depending on where you live. The game is at 7.

Bard looked very wild today going 2 IP, 3 H, 2 ER.

didn't see his start but I was hoping that he North Carolina would have lost today and tomorrow so we can get Bard signed ASAP.

UNC won in a great game. I don't know how Bard pitched. I started watching in the 7th and it was 4-2 'Bama and Bard wasn't in.

2 innings 3H 2ER....no idea why they took him out but everyone should be rooting for carolina to get eliminated as quickly as possible in Omaha to get the red sox investment signed ASAP as I want the sox controlling his arm and not north carolina anymore.

I think we have until August 23 to sign LaPorta. That is when his classes start again. He is asking for a 4 million dollar signing bonus... He worked out at Fenway the other day and was slamming them over the monster.

Thats what I hear too. I guess he only needs a few classes to graduate. He thinks that if he goes back into the draft next year, he'll go earlier and be able to get a better signing bonus. I guess that St Louis told him that they'd take him in the first round if he signed for a million and 1/2, but he turned it down.
