There's the lineups. Happy to see Wells getting the night off. We gotta find a way to win this one. I have a feeling Mirabelli will come up big at some point. He is due..and facing a lefty.

PITCHING MATCHUP:

BOS: RHP David Pauley (Major League debut)

Pauley's 156 innings in 2005 represented the second-highest total in Boston's Minor League system.

TOR: LHP Ted Lilly (5-4, 4.00 ERA)

In 17 career appearances against the Red Sox, Lilly is 5-3, with a 3.57 ERA.

PREVIEW:With David Wells on the disabled list because of his sore right knee, the Red Sox will turn to a 22-year-old rookie to fill the veteran's place in the rotation.

Right-hander David Pauley makes his Major League debut against the Blue Jays on Wednesday. Pauley, who was drafted by San Diego in the eighth round of the 2001 First-Year Player Draft, landed with the Red Sox as part of the package that sent outfielder Dave Roberts to the Padres on Dec. 20, 2004. In six Minor League seasons, Pauley is 35-39 with a 3.78 ERA and 511 strikeouts.

It is too early to tell if this start is just a cup of coffee or the beginning of a longer stint. Wells, who was injured on May 26, when he took a Travis Lee line drive to his surgically repaired knee, will be eligible to come off the disabled list on June 11.

The Red Sox will face left-hander Ted Lilly, whose last start against Boston, on April 13, was arguably his best of the season. On that day, Lilly allowed one run and fanned 10 in seven innings, leading Toronto to an 8-6 victory and picking up the first of his four wins.

Boston heads into the finale of this three-game set looking to avoid a sweep. The series bears a resemblance to the last time the Red Sox suffered a regular-season sweep. That also occurred at the hands of the Blue Jays, on May 24-26, 2005, at the Rogers Centre.

I think id rather see Varitek catch the young kid, but maybe mirabelli has a better history with him.

not a good idea to put mirabelli in. Varitek is better at handling young pitchers and his line against Lilly is one of the only good ones.

bad gameday thread.....wheres schilling or beckett to make a good one

i was actually in the middle of making one, untill this one was made

Come on, David! Let's get it done, tonight! Man, it's not very often that I'm this pumped up for a regular season game!

Is Pauley the solution to our rotation problems??

We might find out tonight, but my guess is no, he isnt.

I remember seeing him against the Phillies in ST..he looked terrible. If he gives us 5 IP and 3 runs I will be ELATED. Rumor has it Hansen would have been called up to make the start had he not pitched 4 days ago..the Brass did not want him going on 3 days rest...and after seeing what the Jays did to Beckett's fastball...I must concur.

Lester looked even worse in his starts in ST, as did many other pitchers... Its just spring training, when pitchers (especially young ones) arent yet fully into their groove

We don't need a new gamethread post. If you feel like any info's missing, just add it in a post.

I agree! In regard to the game, i am really surprised to see Loretta in there tonight. He was seen limping badly yesterday in the clubhouse and was supposed to have his big toenail drilled to relieve the pressure on it:o

Let's hope we can put a win together tonight and then it will be good to get out of toronto!

Hey, I didn't say he sucked..I just said he looked terrible that day. His line was pretty bad. Yes, he did give up a 3 run job to Utley early and pitched well enough after that... We'll see. Problem is ..he is a sinkerball pitcher.. A sinkerball pitcher on a fast track like in Toronto could have along night. I seem to remember Lowe being NIGHTMARISH in Toronto.

Trot Nixon, 2 for 14 (.143 avg) Double, RBI, 4 Ks

With Wily Mo out indefinitely it looks like Trot will be facing a lot of left-handed pitching. As a side note I hope this doesn’t mean we’ll be seeing the recall of Mohr anytime soon.

I wonder how much Craig Wilson would cost? This would also GREATLY depend on how long Willie Mo was out for. I am hearing this injury could keep him out 1-2 months.

Well, the Blue Jays unfamiliarity with Pauley should help him out some. Our lineup makes young pitchers look like Cy Young candidates all the time if we've never seen 'em before.

Pena's out atleast 4-6 weeks. Wilson wouldnt be a bad idea, bit he might be to expensive for a rental. Mohr hits lefties good enough to fill in a month or 2.

Maybe Reggie Sanders???

Mohr "Hit" lefties well..lol.. I am not so sure anymore, although we have seen a very small sample size. We definitely need to see more of Mohr vs LHP.

Oooh..I love the Reggie Sanders idea...he would surely come cheaper. He murders LHP and ain't too bad vs. RHP..

Where did you get that info on Pena? They just said (TC) on the pregame show that he is expected back after the all-star break!

Sanders is hitting lefties great this year.

.316 .350 .526 .876

he's hitting righties at .232 which is why his average is at .257 this year.

A good veteran, who would make a great player to have on the bench. Hes a gamer who would love to end his career on a winning team and maybe win a world series.

looks like Vernon hurt himself by hitting to many HR last night

Vernon Wells is out of Wednesday's starting lineup with a left shoulder injury.

All those home runs last night wore him out. "I did something to my shoulder," Wells told Sportsnet. "I can't really figure out when I aggravated it. It's definitely got some pain in it and hopefully it will be better after tonight. Then we got an off-day tomorrow (Thursday) and hopefully I'll be back in the lineup on Friday." The Jays have Alex Rios in center and Eric Hinske in right field tonight. May. 31 - 6:37 pm et

although i would trust the guys at nesn more than rotoworld...

Wily Mo Pena will undergo surgery Thursday to repair a broken left hamate bone.

Pena figures to miss four to six weeks following the operation. It's fortunate that he waited until Coco Crisp returned to get hurt, but Pena's absence will still hurt the Red Sox against left-handers. Also, his power stroke might not immediately come back after he returns. Trot Nixon will be in the lineup against most left-handers until Pena comes back. May. 31 - 3:19 pm et

That quote is different than your previous comment:

4-6 months is different than 4-6 weeks.----that's why i asked, must have been a typo!

well, that isnt good, but he might as well join the club

I dont like Wilson moving to the AL, seems risky

Sanders is a good idea but i dont see KC trading him
