As a long suffering Rockies fan, I am pleased to announce that the Rockies are STILL on top of the NL West, and more shockingly for this franchise, are 11-5 AWAY from Coors field.

Yeah yeah, I know its only May, however, with Jeff Francis and Aaron Cook pitching much better than last season (Francis hasnt given up more than 2 ER in his last three starts, not to mention his shutting down the CARDINALS through 7 1/3 today, and Cook tossed his first career complete game shutout against Houston during a three game sweep), and the offense that they always had in Helton, Hawpe, Atkins, Holliday (who hit two homers today as well as in the first game of the last road trip) and others, I can honestly say I am not the only one who thinks that in their division, they have a spectacular chance to take the title and a very real chance to contend for the Division Series.

They can score runs and they can finally, finally pitch (except Jose Mesa and Ray King, but even they have their moments) and if the starters can continue to pitch well, the Rockies can and will win 85-90 games this season...and even if they dont, they can win 75-85 and still take the NL West.

Great to see the Rockies doing good! Hopefully they keep it up so the games I see at Coors Field this year are meaningful ones!

I remember some people had some pretty decent expectations from them this year. They expected to have a pretty good year because of their developing pitching (the likes of Duke, Oliver Perez, etc) and some pretty decent bats too. Of course, they just always find a way to suck.

If the Pirates would ever commit to youth they'd have a shot to at least get close to .500, but they always bring in a few 40+ year olds. The Pirates will be miserable until we get new ownership.

We only need 3 more years under .500 to be the team with the most consecutive losing seasons in any major sport.

As far as Perez goes I think there is no question he was on steroids in the past. He's lost all of the pop from his fastball ... 7 mph. He's done.

Im going to post anything about the Rockies in here from now on. I renamed it.

Thank god. I was wondering why someone hadn't started one sooner.

Up 2-1 on the Cardinals right now, but the Cardinals have runners on first and second with no outs and Pujols up. Ugh... come on, Mesa!

edit: And that would be a 3 run HR. I'm not much of a Jose Mesa fan. I'd rather see Fuentes have to pitch two innings.

I read once that in some countries being sarcastic can get you hanged.

On another note, Jose Mesa ruins a solid start from Josh Fogg.

Fogg looked really good. Carpenter walked 6 or so while the defense behind him committed 3 errors and that Rockies lineup still managed only two runs. Eh, games like that'll happen I s'ppose. Holliday looked great again and this team looks like they can beat anybody on any given night. Hope they can keep it up!

Youk, if you look back, I picked the Rockies to win the NL West. Go see for yourself.

Not too sure yet. The Giants have Barry Bonds, so they will for sure contend, but they are just an arthritis away from joining the Rockies in the basement. The Padres aren't doing anything to improve themselves from last year. I think the D'backs have a chance, too but it's slim. The Rockies? 'Nuff said.

i think the rockies should still consider trading Helton while he can still get you a couple valuable prospects in return. The Rockies are good, but I think they should continue to think about the future and not trade their 'spects for veterans who won't help in a year or two. The trade for Matsui is the kind of trade they should make, trades that won't hurt you that much if they don't work at all.

s***, I hate old-fashioned softball games @ Coors. It's 7-5 COL right now in the 6th. The Rox need an indoor stadium!

What's an indoor stadium going to do? The air density is much lower both inside and outside, and the lower density is why the ball carries so well.
