Ken Rosenthal wrote an excellent article about Giambi in the Sporting News last September. The facts really have not changed that much since the article was written.

Giambi is still hitting HR's at an astounding rate, and the legitimacy of his comeback is still in question.

"We also don't know whether he still might be using human growth hormone, which is detected only in blood tests, not in the urine samples conducted by Major League Baseball in its steroids testing.....

Perhaps Giambi is simply a good guy proving that he can thrive without the juice. That would make his story a traditional baseball myth, nice and clean. ....

Alas, Giambi is a confirmed liar.

His BALCO testimony contradicted his previous comments; he knows that publicly admitting the use of performance enhancers could allow the Yankees to void the remainder of his seven-year, $120 million contract that will expire in 2008.

The best comebacks inspire us. Giambi's makes us cringe.

Do not vote for him for Comeback Player of the Year. "

BS, because if he was the yankees would easily be on top of the AL east with ZERO losses.

i don't see what the big deal is. alot of people who have worn the yankee pinstripes are tainted. the babe himself with a slob who drank and smoked all the time and never gave a rats ass about his health, how about the others who were wife beaters?

c'mon, you can't just single a guy out cus he did steroids. big deal, alot of people did steroids it was part of the game (unfortunately) it's time we moved on, not dwell in the past. people deserve to be forgiven, it's part of life.

john

I'm not dwelling in the past, I'm dwelling in the present because it would not surprise me one bit to find him still on steroids of some sort.

And please, don't ever compare drinking and being a fat slob on the same level as being a cheater. if anything, the fact Ruth drank and was out of shape made it mmore fair for the rest of the playing field, as opposed to the effect steroids has.

I wasn't going to add anything to this discussion, but I have to say: Alcohol and cigars aren't unethical ways of enhancing yourself. That he was able to drink and smoke and womanize like he did and STILL be as great as he was just adds to his legend.

thank you. I'm sick of people who bring up the fact that Ruth drank and ate like a elephant to justify the Roidheads of today.

simple minded is what I wrote...

close-mind·ed (klsmndd, klz-) or closed-mind·ed (klzd-)

adj.

Intolerant of the beliefs and opinions of others; stubbornly unreceptive to new ideas.

Basically, you cannot understand new concepts because you are an idiot...

I hope something good comes from the commission which MLB has set up to study steroids, led by Mitchell. And what I am hoping for is that strict testing will be imposed immediately and that includes blood tests for HGH.

However I have my doubts that MLB really wants to catch everyone who is taking steroids or HGH. Because home runs help attendance. And MLB may not want to expose the degree of steroid and HGH use in the sport.
