excuses, excuses. Pavano got hit in the temple last yr too and he had 3-4 great starts afterwards. It doesnt affect your pitching, it affects the way you react to balls coming off the bat. If he misses a few grounders back to him, then I'd understand that, but completely imploding? Not due to getting hit....

everyone reacts differently to those situations. maybe he was a lot more timid going up to the mound and pitching

I don't buy it, not one bit. Damn, getting hit in the head was the reason I hung that curve. Damn, those 8 runs the white sox put up on me were because I got hit in the head 3 months ago, thats it!!! If that truly is the case then he can fall back on excuses and he is a f***ing pussy....

or he goes up there and is like "s*** i hope i don't get hit in the temple again" so his mind is thinking about that instead of putting all his mind and energy towards the next pitch. you aren't him, you don't know how it affects him.

Hey ksushi, Have you seen the promotion on MLB.TV for "mosaic" feature coming in "mid-April"? It looks like we will be able to get 6 thumbnail videocasts/live games all on one screen. As usual, they are late getting it up, (heh, heh), but I am looking forward to seeing it. I don't think they are going to charge us additional.

Yeah, he's a real pussy for being scared to get a linedrive to the head again. REAL f***ING PUSSY. If you actually watched Clement after he got hit, you would see that he flinched right at the point of his release when pitching. That WOULD account for all of the hung curveballs and all the runs against him. How can you say you know how he reacts to a situation? Don't buy it if you don't want, but goddamn, saying that getting hit in the head isn't an excuse for sucking, then proceeding to call him a pussy is one of the most asinine things I've ever heard.

Good point Rivernator only know that Clement was quoted either during the off season or at the start of this one that the injury had an effect on his performance. I don't remember if he said it was just his fielding. But anyway, he seems fully recovered right now from whatever it was.

When you take he mound, you know of the possibility of a Bryce Florie and you accept it as a fluke occasion. If you get hit in the head, you get stunned for a day or two, but you get right back on the horse. Also, hanging curves does not happen by "flinching" before the delivery, which btw is the most assinine thing I have ever heard. If he truly was "flinching" before he released, he wouldnt be able to find the plate and his post AS break BB totals were only mildly elevated. I think you guys are just making excuses for basically a mediocre pitcher who regressed to the mean....

Clement also had good starts after but it is very very hard to pitch after that. It isn't an excuse its a fact. The guy got hit and couldn't put it together. Not to mention all the other set backs it caused with his conditioning. Don't bother. It affects the way you throw to home plate, it affects the confidence you have when delivering your pitch and it affects how you follow through with your mechanics because you're afraid of the ball. I'm a pitcher, I've been hit, I know how it goes. Recently been hit too. At any level that is how it is, even more so in the major leagues.

Sure, you know the possibility is there, but until you're hit you have no idea what it can do to you. I'm not going to bother explaining, because I thought this was basically common sense and very logical.

If you cannot put it together 1 week after getting hit in the head then you don't belong on the mound. I pitched in college and I took a few off the noggin. I got one that knocked the cap off my head but didnt get my head. Then 2 batters later I got drilled in the back of the head. It hurts, it's scary, but you get right back on once the juices get flowin again. I didnt want to field anything back to me for a few weeks, but I wasnt worried about pitching.....

One thing that is actually scarier than getting hit in the head is getting hit in the nuts. That happened before, and I was one of those guys who did not like wearing a cup while pitching....
