That's more important, when deciding on a Cy Young winner.

Not necessarily. If that were the case then why not just give the award to the innings pitched leader every year.

Cy Young is supposed to go to the best pitcher in each league. Mariano Rivera definately falls under that category when it comes to the American League and 2005. He went forever without blowing a save. Practically never gave up a run (I dont remember the exact number but he had a nice little scoreless streak going). Pitched in the high-pressured atmosphere of what is Yankee baseball, where every game means something. Factoring all of that in with the fact that last year was Mo's best season, and the fact that he was just completely dominate over everybody with the exception of the Red Sox in the first week of the season gives him the award in my book.

I thought Ortiz was the MVP last yr, btw....

I didnt. I made my arguement plenty of times in other threads. Not going to go through it all again here.

So you care more about runs allowed than your team's record?

She didnt say that. It was just a little fact that she wanted to point out. Nothing major, no need to get into an uproar over it.

Would you rather have good pitching and suck or have bad pitching and be good?

Who has good pitching and sucks? Not us. I'm pretty sure our offense showed that today.

I think its ridiculous that you guys can say we suck based on 6 GAMES!!! Get serious. We'll see who's talking come October.

I didn't say you guys suck, but your record does suck. Optimist said she'd rather have the starters be strong than have a good record. So you have good pitching (so far) and a crap record (so far). Would you rather take that or have crap pitching and a good record?

I know.....

2005...11-19

2004...8-11

1998...1-4

1997...5-11

1996...6-7

Those are all under .500 starts in the past 10 years....and in 4 of those 5 seasons...we went on to win the division..and in 1997 we came in 2nd...and still got the Wild Card...and in 1998..we went on to have 114 wins.

I'm not nervous

You mean that lefty who everybody forgot about for the first few months of the season and who pitched meaningless games for the s***** Twins?

The team he pitched for is irrelevant. The CY isn't for the most valuable pitcher, it is for the best pitcher, and SPs rightly get more respect than RPs because RPs have always been failed SPs. Mariano had a great year last year, but Johan had a better year IMO because he is a starter.

Yes, Gagne and Eck won a CY, but Eck didn't deserve it in '92. He deserved it in '90, where his ERA was 0.61, his ERA+ was 606, and his WHIP was 0.61, and I think the sportwriters were just correcting a mistake. Gagne won it with a 1.20 ERA, 335 ERA+, 14.9 K/9, 0.69 WHIP, and 55/55 SV. Mo's ERA and ERA+ stats were close to Gagne's, but his peripheral stats weren't and he wasn't perfect. They have set the bar for relievers. Mo didn't clear it.
