Obviously Ortiz was wearing down last year. He carries too much weight on his bones, he will be the next Mo Vaughn.

How was he wearing down? He had the greatest September in Sox history. He got better as the year progressed.

Mo never DH'd fulltime like Ortiz does and thats why Mo wore down. Ortiz is exactly the opposite. He is fresh the entire year because he does not play the field.

And may the Mets find him well. Although I have a suspicion that Delgado is going to be the true next Mo Vaughn, at least as far as the Mets are concerned.

Ortiz may turn into Mo Vaughn III, but not and probably not even as far away as through 07.

No Ortiz deal--for now

By Gordon Edes, Globe Staff

David Ortiz smiled broadly when told that ESPNdeportes reported he had reached an agreeement on a four-year extension with the Red Sox, especially when told that it was for four years and $50m. "Sounds good,'' he said.

But it ain't true, he said. And he insisted he wasn't just playing the good soldier and not commenting because the club asked him not to, pending an official announcement.

The club, of course, is taking considerable pains to keep things under wraps. GM Theo Epstein did acknowledge that the sides have had "quiet discussions."

well, despite the offer not being confirmed by either side, Papi did say he'd be happy with it and $12.5 million is definitely fair for what he means to the team
