Hey Ive just been wondeirng how is Craig Hanson doing this spring. I think hes got great potential but I havent heard anything from him at all this spring. What have his stats been this spring? Has he looked good at all?

Hanson hasn't released a new album in a while. Craig Hansen (I'm just kidding, I like to nit pick about spelling) is doing wonderfully this spring. 6 IP, 0.00 ERA 0.67 WHIP. Only downside is he has a 1 K/BB ratio.

Take this with a grain of salt though. After all, it's only spring training.

Haha thanks for the update. . . your right its only spring traing but its good to hear hes doing well. I think he has a great future. You think he has a shot at contributing later in the season?

If Foulke fails, which i doubt, my bet is Hansen will be the Huston Street of this year

o yah and i think Lester will be the Zach Duke of this year if he gets called up, regardless of how he just pitched last 2 games

Let's not get crazy Street went out of his mind last year. It would be crazy to expect that from Hansen.

I don't expect a lot out of Foulke this season. He might do well but it is by no means a given.

That being said, I expect Hansen to be on the MLB roster if not right at the beginning of the year, EASILY by June. He will probably take the first open/struggling spot from Seanez, Riske, Foulke, Tavarez.

They are certainly pitching him as if they are hoping he will be able to contribute at the ML level.

Hansen has a high cieling and people like to think he doesn't have enough pitches because of what they saw last year when he was coming off a dead arm period. I think Hansen could be a major contributor if given the shot, but I don't think he has to be. Having Hansen in AAA is a luxury. Having Lester in AAA is a luxury. They both have to learn. A good farm system has a lot of really good players, like Anaheim or Tampa, a great farm system has a lot of good players who play the game exceptionally well because they learn the game. Talent is only half of the equation. If you can keep guys in the lower levels with the training wheels on for a little while it really helps the development along. Hansen will be a machine, so will Lester, but if he were to start the season he might not be a machine right away. Lester took a number 2 on his start today against Tampa and thats what young pitchers do. They learn from it though, Lester has bad velocity out of the stretch, but hes getting there. He will get better. Hansen gets flustered when he doesn't dominate out of the gate. He will get better. I think Hansen is a god. I worship the guy. When we signed him last year I was so happy because everyone talked about how this guy was too good a prospect for the Sox to net and that he would go back into the draft the next year etc. etc. and what happened? Yeah, Craig Hansen is a beast.

I saw Craig pitch in person at ST, he looked...eh. He was wild, loaded the bases on walks, but showed the poise to get out of it without giving up any runs. I liked what I saw.

That is his 1st apperance you are talking about. Since then he's thrown 5 more shutout innings, issuing no walks

Anuj09: i love seeing him and Delcarmen pitch they are f***ing flamethrowers

Mike Timlin is likely to retire after this season. Manny's the perfect fit to take over the 8th inning role. Im just picturing a great duo of Manny & Hansen at the back of the bullpen.

I'm not that high on Delcarmen, I still think we should trade him while he has value because I don't see a good MLB career in front of him.

Yeah, wow guys, one medicore spring and its "lets give up on a 23 year old flame thrower with the best curve in our system"

What about him dont you like other than he hasn't made any top 100 lists? Delcarmen is a great prospect to have in your system and hes got a ton of upside.

Because he's good.

and becuase mota is known for being a clubhouse cancer! Better to keep the guy with a bigger upside!

Actually its not foulke's last year. He has a vested option I believe for 2007 depending on how many games I think he pitches in or finishes. All I know is when he signed the deal to come here it was 3 years with a 4th year option.

I believe its a vested option and the red sox might not be able to decline it. It kicks in depending on the amount of games foulke pitches in.

Keith Foulke: 3-Year worth 20.25M- will make 3M in 04 + 1.5M signing bonus (paid in installments of 500K each year of the deal), and will make 7M in 2005 and 7.25M in 2006- deal includes 7.5M 2007 Mutual option or 1.5M buyout- if Red Sox decline option, but choose not to pay buyout, Foulke receives 3.75M Player option- that option becomes guaranteed with 45 games finished in each of his first three years or a total of 95 GF in 2005 and 2006 combined- + w/ 53 GF in 2006 player option rises to 7.75M- option can also rise to 7.75M if Foulke finishes in Top 5 for Cy Young voting in at least 1 season- the deal could then become worth up to 26.5M

He had 37 GF last year, so the only thing that raises the player option to $7.75M is 53 GF or a top-5 Cy Young finish this year. Needless to say, if he's good enough to be finishing out 53 games or be a top-5 Cy candidate, then the Sox will want him around in 2007.

There's still alot up in the air to be thinking about what to do with Foulke for 07! If he doesn't return to form, we take the $1.5 hit and dump him---however if he has an 04 type season, then I think we keep him. Great closers (which he was in 04) are hard to find; I mean if we had a good closer last year the yankers would not have sniffed us in the east!
