Well, Graff won't ever be a real full time starter at 2B, which is why he wouldn't exactly get the job done. A platoon of Pokey and Graff would be reasonable, but not preferable. Clement and Arroyo aren't exactly the type of people they're looking for, especially because they want to completely change the face of their franchise. They'd ask for guys like Papelbon, Lester, Pedroia, etc...guys that we're not willing to give up. I mean, if we could get D-Train for a reasonable price that won't hurt us, go for it. But for a team like the Sox that is looking towards the future, giving up top prospects isn't what we need to be doing to get a guy like D-Train.

Hope that helps. And welcome to TalkSox! Consider making a thread in the "Introduce Yourself" forum. :D

Why would they cut him because he has a hefty contract? That doesnt make very much sense. This isnt football, where you can release a player and not pay him. Since he doesnt have any options or anything, the Sox would have to release him, meaning that they have to eat his contract.
I read that Seanez's contract is not guaranteed.

Seanez' contract:

Rudy Seanez: signed deal for 2006 season worth 2.1M on 12/20/05- + he receives a 1.9M salary in 2006- + the includes a Team Option for 2007 worth at least 2.1M or a 200K buyout- + he can earn performance bonuses in 2006: 25K for 10 and 15 games, 25K for 25, 30 and 35 games and 100K for 40 games and every increment of 5 games up to 60 games- + with 30GF in 2006, the option becomes a Player Option- + he can earn 500K in additional performance bonuses each season based on GF- + any performance bonuses earned in 2006 would increase the 2007 option value by that amount of earned performance bonuses- + 2005 salary: 550K (+ 150K in performance bonuses)

I'd hardly classify his contract as hefty. At $2.1M, it won't kill them to eat it if he's not getting the job done.

With Wells staying, Im actually leaning toward the decision to have Paps start the season in Pawtucket. Its a full staff as it is, and I want to see him get used as much as he deserves, which might be in Pawtucket until something can be cleared for him. :dunno:

I agree RS. I'd rather have Papelbon starting games in AAA than relieving in the bigs. He needs to continue to work as a starter to complete the transition from reliever to starter. Let him be in the 'Tuckett rotation and he gets the nod when/if someone goes down.

idk if they will take any of our starters (i.e Clement or Arroyo) but i am sure they would be willing to take Graffinino for a prospect, but that prospect at most would be like an average one

Gee, I'm sorry I asked a simple question.

I just figured that since the Sox are shopping Graf right now, and they have looked into what they could get for Clement and Arroyo recently...and they already made one deal with Florida...Willis' contract is up after this year, the sox have too many starting pitchers.

Because of all of those factors, it seemed to me worth asking what people thought. If you think it's a bad move for the Sox, say so. If you think it's bad for the Marlins, say so. Please, by all means, inform me. Obviously, I'm new to this. Smart alec responses don't offer anything meaningful.

Thanks to 26 for at least making it known that Florida wouldn't go for this. That is what I suspected in the beginning. I still thought it worth asking you "experts".

Don't worry about it "What". Singer acts condesending to everyone.

Wells pissed again:

'''Right now it's too early to really speculate on that. If they still feel the same way after a few more outings, we're definitely going to have to sit down and talk. I don't see myself sitting until the 15th to wait to pitch. I just don't see it at all.'

"Francona said, 'We came to camp respecting his wishes [to be traded]. Things change. And I'm happy they changed. At the same token, I'm not going to take the four pitchers I've talked to . . . '

"He halted mid-sentence, changed direction, and said only, 'Sometimes you have to be a little flexible.'

"Wells, informed of this, said if his earlier wish to be moved closer to a West Coast team will be held against him, 'They can grant that first wish.' -- 3.17.06, Chris Snow, Boston Globe

and more fromt he fatman:

"Wells also revealed that he jokingly lobbied Francona to start Beckett ahead of Schilling Opening Day at Texas.

'''I said, 'Why doesn't the young guy come in and start? Why's it gotta be Curt?' Wells said. 'He goes, 'Well, I've known him longer.' I said, 'Oh, we've got to play that game, huh? The I've-known-you-longer game.' We were just joking around.'" -- 3.17.06, Chris Snow, Boston Globe

Theo; can we please trade this guy. We don't need him, I would be happy for paps to get his spot!

Gordon Edes in his boston globe blog says Texas has some interest in David Wells.

That would be great. Ship him off to hell where he doesn't want to be to end his career! Come on Theo, pull the trigger!:D

David Wells just keeps it rolling. Quite the professional as he call his manager Tito an idiot while talking to reporters. But at the same time of saying that, he is now OK with being held back until mid-April. Gordon Edes has mentioned that Wells first start would then be April 12.

Here is some of what he said:

"'What went on in that office should have stayed there in that office and it shouldn't have come out to you guys,' Wells said. 'So he's the idiot for saying that like that, not me, because I didn't interpret it like that.'

"Francona, who never breaches confidentiality with players, revealed too much in Wells' eyes.

"'I try to speak in generalities because I don't want to ever communicate through the media,' Francona said. 'I think he felt like maybe I did that a little bit. I certainly don't ever want to do that.'" -- 3.18, Dave Heuschkel, Hartford Courant

If i haven't mentioned it yet, i would love to get wells out of here---however with all the pitt talk about clement, it seems even more unlikely!

I saw his postgame press confence (parts of it) on NESN today; and he is still taking shots at the sox! He keeps saying he's very unhappy, and there's nothing he can do. "you can't fight city hall". He also talked about the Bronson trade: talked about when Theo walked in Wells said: "theo, you traded the wrong guy, i asked to be traded".

Please get this guy out of here!

He'll do well. His contract is heavily weighted for incentives. In the end, he is a professional.
