Maybe if he could actually play defense, or run out ground balls, or run on potential double plays, or run in general.

I guess I'm the only person here who's wicked pissed that Manny's too good to show up on time.... so I'll just keep my opinions to myself and hope that he does hit enough to justify fact that he's a selfish a-hole who's way overpaid to be a one-dimensional player.

I would have been pissed a few years ago, but it happs so frequently that I guess I've become immune. I understand that some people have a lower tolerance for him. He's definitely a dick.

He is apparently doing some extensive training...at least that's what Dibble and Kennedy reported on The Show on my way home from work today.

If I was a teammate of Manny's, I think I would have to accept that he was a superstar, and they have their own status. Yeah, it's Manny being Manny...but IMO, he has earned the right to be "Manny". And I think his teammates are used to it by now, and don't let it affect their training.B)

And if he missed the entire spring training...I think I would still have faith he'd come in April 1st and hit a home run or two.... ;)

So I really don't care! As long as we still have him and he's still got those numbers.:)

I'm sure that's what most of us were thinking.

Actually I was looking at your AV and wondering who George is requesting to sit on his thumb ... Jeter or Arod?

I have absolutely NO tolerance for Manny Ramirez. He's a selfish prick.

If I was Manny's teammate I'd probably re-arrange his face.

Which would make you an even worse teammate than he is.

You're right.

Violence isn't the answer and that came strictly out of frustration. But someone should step up as a leader and to at least get Manny to put some effort into it. For cripes' sake Gabe Kapler blew out his achilles and he came to camp EARLY.

Wow, youre an idiot, Manny is missing 5 meaningless days of spring training, he isnt even missing any game time. I think Manny has earned the right to show up when ever the hell he pleases. I wouldnt even care if he showed up April 4, Manny is a pure hitter he doesnt need spring training

Honestly, the last person on the board you should be calling an idiot is elsrbueno.

Anyway, again, I don't care what type of person he is, as long as he gets the job done on the field, I don't care what goes on. If he sucks as a result of missing time at spring training or whatever (don't care how important the days are), then boo the f*** out of him. If he sucks because of his own carelessness, he deserves every bit of criticism he gets. But, until this happens, and as long as he puts up monster numbers, I'll sit back, take whatever stupidity comes from him, and enjoy watching him own bitches.

No player has 'earned the right to show up when ever the hell he pleases.'

Right, it's all part of being a team. If you can't be a part of the TEAM, then don't play on the TEAM. Even though I said I don't really care about his off-field antics, it does get under the skin a little bit. I guess Manny couldn't find an I in TEAM and just picked out the M and the E <_>

Oh, btw, 5000th post. Woohoo.

And you would be cut from the team before they stopped the bleeding. Do you remember when Chad Curtis criticized Jeter's behavior during a fight. He was gone no long after, and Jeter was a only second or third year player. Manny is a bona fide superstar heading to the Hall of Fame.

Did you read anything after that? Or just to excited to post?

He said a few posts later that he realizes violence wouldn't work.

It's got nothing to do with violence. No one except Ortiz can call him out about this, because Manny can tell them all to F off until they put up his kind of numbers. If some Chad Curtis-type gets in his face, he will find himself on the waiver wire pretty quick.

Everybody who criticized Manny in this thread needs to get the facts stright. Mandatory reporting day for positional players is Feb 28. Manny is not a "No-Show" as this thread wrecklessly states. He's not due in to camp until next Tuesday! He called the manager who after hearing his reasons, said it would be ok for him to report ONE DAY LATE. It would be better to have him on time, but ripping into a guy for showing up one day late while getting permission from his manager is idiotic. Not getting the facts striaght before you do is irresponsible.

Why do you think Manny hates the media in this town? Maybe its because they'll devote major segments of their show, or article, of how hes a bad teamate for not being in camp when he isn't even due in yet.

The positional players that are there have reported early.

I think that's a bit overreactive.... Because he missed a few days of soring training...s*** if he hits like he hit last year he can miss the whole godamn thing for all I care.

People need to chill out and get over it. It's not even a story!! Who cares?? So he missed a few days? What's the big deal?

Posted

Why is this such a big deal?

I think if you look around MLB, there are plenty of players who have received permission from their teams to miss a few days.

Also... I may be wrong, but don't the Patriots let their veterans show up for camp at different times, and also skip certain exhibition games?

jw, has anyone seen or heard Alex Gonzalez report the ST? I haevn't seen anything on him.

he is there but will be leaving for the WBC to play for Venuezla.

Missing a few days is no big deal, but the truth is that coming on the heels of his trade demand and all the trade rumors, I won't exhale until he shows up and acts like his goofy Manny self. I hope he doesn't show up disgruntled.

don't know if this has been posted but...

Wilson says Manny's content

Infielder talked to Ramirez, who wants to stay in Boston

FORT MYERS, Fla. -- Aside from the fact that Red Sox designated hitter David Ortiz likes new teammate Enrique Wilson, he had an even bigger reason to smile when he saw reporters surround him on Thursday.

Ortiz no longer has to be the unofficial spokesperson for Ramirez, at least as long as Wilson, a non-roster invitee, is with the Red Sox.

"This is the guy that you guys can find a lot about Manny [from]," said a grinning Ortiz.

Wilson and Ramirez were teammates from 1997-2000 with the Guardians and are fellow Dominicans. They remain "real close, very good friends," according to Wilson. And it didn't take Wilson long to give the inquiring reporters a nugget that had yet to come from anyone else in camp.

"He wants to play here. That's what he told me," said Wilson, who spoke to Ramirez last week.

That was information that nobody else from the Red Sox has come out and said the last few days.

The club still won't say whether Ramirez has rescinded his wish to be traded.

"Did he rescind it?" said Red Sox owner John W. Henry, who met with Ramirez recently. "I don't want to get into the specifics of our conversation. It was a private conversation. If Enrique Wilson said it, we know it's the truth."

Henry was making a lighthearted reference to all the controversy that occurred late in the 2003 season, when Ramirez was apparently too sick to report for a couple of late-season games against the Yankees, but was spotted mingling with Wilson in the lobby of the Ritz-Carlton hotel in Boston.

"We didn't do anything at that time. He just came to my room," Wilson said. "They made a big deal about that. But he didn't do anything. He just went there to the hotel for five minutes and he left. That was it."

As for Wilson, he is no stranger to Red Sox fans after spending three seasons (2002-04) with the Yankees. Aside from his relationship with Ramirez, Wilson was known for wearing out former Red Sox ace Pedro Martinez. Now he's trying to win a job with the team he used to love to beat. It will be tough, as the Red Sox are deep in the infield.

"I know it's going to be tough, but I guess I have to do my job here and see what happens," said Wilson.

are you kidding me?

Exactly. I made a similar point and everyone that was bashing him, and there were at least 5 members, have refused to support their criticism since my post. I hope its because they realize how much they over reacted and how dumb getting mad over this is.
