god i cant wait for the season to actually start, enough of this ******** "those players are gonna fail for you, yada yada yada"

I'm with you...I hate the predictions, the what can/will be crap...but of course, I'm optimistic, as always :D

Im not wishing, Lowell yes he had a piss-poor season but look at the seasons before the drop-off, pales in comparison. I thought Giambi wouldnt bounce back for a comeback season but yankee fans had proved me wrong and I accept that.

--Lowell is moving to more of a offesnive lineup that the Marlins recently had

--Fenway Park, he hit 36 doubles while hitting just .234 and playing in the biggest pitcher's park. How can this not point to him having the same ammount or even exceeding 40 doubles.

--Mueller is my boy but Lowell has edged him out for defense creds. Gold Glover in 05 adds to what should be the best infield defense of at least the division on paper

Best infield in the division? Cmon now. Your right side is leaky as is ours. The left side on the other hand is strong for both. Either way, guys who make immense drops in production while playing TONS of games are scary. It isnt like he was hurt. He just plain sucked. Loretta was hurt, Giambi was sick in 2004, Schilling was hurt last yr, etc. Guys who have a reason for sucking are usually expected to return to some level of productivity, but when a guy who plays 140+ games and never hits the DL just plays way below expectations, then accusations start. I dont think Lowell did steroids, dont get me wrong, but he would be the type of guy I'd keep my eye on. His drop was so sudden that a change of venue to a little league park wouldnt have helped him. He needs to completely retool his swing....

You sure about that one?

JT Snow ... or Jason Giambi ... ya OK I think we win.

Mark Loretta or Robinson Canono ... oh we win again.

Loretta and JT Snow combined for 9 errors last year. Loretta with 6 and JT with 3. Giambi and Cano combined for 24 errors last year. Cano with 17 and Giambi wtih 7(in just 78 games.)

As for the Johnny Damon/Coco Crisp comparison. Here's one that speaks volume.

Damon's First 4 seasons

47 games- (.282 avg) (.314 OBP) (.441 SLG) (.765 OPS) 3 Hrs, 23 RBIs

145 games- (.271 avg) (.313 OBP) (.368 SLG) (.680 OPS) 6 Hrs, 50 RBIs

146 games- (.275 avg) (.338 OBP) (.386 SLG) (.723 OPS) 8 Hrs, 48 RBIs

161 games- (.277 avg) (.339 OBP) (.439 SLG) (.779 OPS) 18 HRs. 66 RBIs

Crisp's First 4 seasons

32 games- (.260 avg) (.314 OBP) (.386 SLG) (.700 OPS) 1 HR, 9 RBIs

99 games- (.266 avg) (.302 OBP) (.353 SLG) (.655 OPS) 3 Hrs, 27 RBIs

139 games- (.297 avg) (.344 OBP) (.446 SLG) (.790 OPS) 15 Hrs, 71 RBIs

coco is a great fit here if he handles the lites which i dont think he'll have a problem with

if you go thru life with the name"" coco crisp"" im sure you can handle adversity of any kind.

i'm prepared to give youkilis every oppurtunity to win the 1st base job but jt snow is a solid glove with more pop and certainly a viable option if youk cant cut it with the glove.

renteria had 34? errors last year

10 of them wouldve been prevented by a 1st baseman not named millar.

I don't know about that. I don't remember Rents making more than a few throwing errors. Most of his errors came on ground balls that went right through his legs.

You posters will have to get used to the rivernator or mj or bbdoc or whatever he decides to call himself on this forum. he has the thickest set of rose colored glasses in existence when it comes to the yankmees.

for instance, he predicted Kevin brown would win 17 games last year along with pavano -18 - and wright 17. so, expect grandiose comments about the abilities of the world's biggest chokers w/o any thought on the comments we make about the sox players.

we enjoyed his comments on the BH forum and are glad he came back for more abuse this season.

Overall I still think Cano and Giambi will be a smidge better than Snow and Loretta. They'll make up for their defense. Jeter and Rodriguez are also not bad on either side of the ball.

Oh I never said they'd be better on offense. The comment was "you're right side is as leaky as ours" which is simply not the case. Defensivly the Sox are much much better on the right side of the infield. Offensivly I think you have to give the Yankees the edge.

the only way giambi can make up for his defense is to DH - he is pathetic as a 1st baseman.

I don't know if he'll be able to make up for his horrible defense, but another 30+, 100+ season would go a long way to doing that.

Yeah he had a number of very cheap RF wall scrappers last year.

Giambi? Not really. The one vs the sox was pretty cheesy, but hey how many HRs over the monster or down the pesky pole are benefited by the field. It happens. The majority of Giambi's HRs were bombs. Once he got back on track, he was nasty....
