As most of you probably know the Carribbean Series, held in Venezuela this year, is beginning on Thursday. To me this stuff is a big deal, much like the Nippon Series. The big thing about this years series is that YES will be carrying the ENTIRE series. So for those of you here in New York or with DirecTV we will be able to watch it, which is nice considering that I havent been able to watch any Winter League baseball this winter, and when I watched it last winter it was all in Spanish (Fox Sports Espanol, which I dont get this year, long story). I dont know if YES is carrying the Feed from Fox Sports or ESPN (I know they do English feeds for Latin American residents) or if they will be doing their own production, most likely the first, but I would love it if they did the latter. It would be pretty cool for Michael Kay and Bob Lorenz or someone to be doing thses games

Anyways, I will post more on this later on, such as which teams will be representing their countries, who the marquee players on those teams are, what players are added to those team's rosters, etc.

ok, so the video production is not done by YES. YES took the Latin American based feed (no specific channel) and threw in their own broadcasters. Doing the first game tonight was Jim Leyritz and Billy Sample. Doing the second game is Victor and Cookie Rojas. No idea what Sample and the Rojas boys have to do with YES

Oh, btw the Dominican team (including the likes of Melky Cabrera, Miguel Tejada, among others) beat the Puerto Rican team (featuring Alex Cora) in game 1.

The video feed was absolutely awful, and the audio wasn't much better. The baseball that I saw wasn't bad, but why bother if the production flat out sucks?

please make him go away....

They are both such MFY homers it's pathetic.

Honorable mention goes to Hawk Harrelson, obnoxious brown-nosing announcer for the White Sox ooops I meant "The Good Guys".....gimme a break!

You got that right. The most biased announcer who shouldn't even be an announcer.

They took the video feed from somewhere else, and they had guys sitting up in Connecticut doing the games for audio. At least for the first game. The second, the Rojas guys were there. But I agree, bad production...but its better than watching YES Network Magazine or Running.

Yeah, he's tough to stomach when MLB Extra Innings shows the game on the network the WSox are on....of course, NESN and Remy and Orsillo RULE....but I'm a little biased! :D

You obviously dont know what you're talking about. Kay actually makes an effort to be neutral. He is definately nto a homer, he takes his job very seriously. He isnt Jerry Remy and Don Orsillo, who pull for the Red Sox in the booth. One time on his radio show, a fan said to Michael "I know you're a Yankee fan.........." and Kay cut him off saying "no i'm not". Trsut me. If you've ever listend to Kay on a regular basis you will know for fact that he is not a homer.

Maybe we should just agree to disagree. I think Remy and Orsillo are very "fair and balanced" and that Kay is a homer, but I know I haven't heard him as much as you have.

I think we're all a little partial to our own announcers. But you have to admit (if you've heard him) that Hawk Harrelson is probably the worst homer ever. McCarver is just an idiot!

Yes, no doubt about Hawk and McCarver. I just think it is ludicrous to call Kay a homer when he prides himself on being the exact opposite. But we can agree to disagree.

I'll listen a little closer this season w/ "open ears" :)

I actually purchased this on MLB.TV and I have been watching the games. They have been really entertaining and I can't wait to see the WBC next month.

Kay is a total idiot. He's one of the rotating hosts on ESPNs The Sports Reporters and he doesn't know jack s*** about baseball. He's one of those "The Yankees will win because, well, err, ummm, they are the Yankees". He is to the Yankees what Shank is to the Globe and Red Sox. The only difference is that Yankee fans love Kay and Sox fans call out Shannassey as an idiot. They are both impossible to take seriously.

A lot of Yankee fans dont like Kay very much. But then there are others like myself who love him.

And he never acted like "The Yankees will win because, well, err, ummm, they are the Yankees". If you seriously paid more attention to what he says on his radio show and on Sports Reporters he tells what he honestly feels, regardless of if it is pro-Yankees or Anti-Yankees.

Honestly, who can you take anything you say as objective when comes to anything associated with the Yankees? You probably go to every Jason Alexander movie just because he worked for the Yankees as Costanza on Seinfeld. That is how much you are totally ga-ga about everything to do with the organization.

As a regular watcher of the Sports Reporters and someone who has only seen a handful of games on YES, I can say my opinion of Kay has very little to do with the rivalry. He is one of the worst panel members to regularly frequent that show. I agree with RSR, the guy strikes me as a complete idiot, and it has nothing to do with the fact that he works for the Yankees.

i can understand why the yank fans dont understand the game of baseball after listening to kay and his butch for 3 hours a nite.

its not your fault

keep saying it

its not your fault

""joe says alex is a gamer and alex says jeter taught him to handle the media and kevin was being playful and jorge blushed when i asked him how beautiful i thought his wife is""

my god make it stop somehow

Red Sox's Alex Cora & Alex Gonzalez instill great offense in a good start to the caribbean series. While newly acquired pitcher Tavarez floundered in relief...

Boston Herald: Alex great early

Alex Gonzalez, not officially expected to be announced as the Red Sox’ new shortstop until next week, provided an encouraging sign on Thursday that he will rebound from the worst offensive season of his career. The former Florida Marlin went 4-for-4 with three RBI in Venezuela’s 17-1 drubbing of Mexico in the teams’ first game of the Caribbean World Series in Valencia, Venezuela. Gonzalez, who is believed to have passed his physical in Boston earlier this week, has undergone arthroscopic surgeries on his right elbow following each of the last two seasons.

The soon-to-be 29-year-old (Feb. 15) reportedly agreed to a one-year, $3 million contract. He is playing for the Caracas Lions in the round-robin Caribbean tournament that ends Tuesday. Former Sox right-hander Jeremi Gonzalez, who signed a minor league deal with the New York Mets on Jan. 24, allowed only one unearned run and three hits in seven innings for Caracas Thursday. He struck out seven.

Alex Cora, who was expected to be the Sox’ starting shortstop before the signing of Gonzalez, also got off to a terrific start in the Caribbean series. Batting leadoff and playing shortstop for Puerto Rico’s Carolina Giants, Cora went 4-for-6 in Thursday’s 5-4 win over the Licey Tigers of the Dominican Republic. Reliever Julian Tavarez, the only other Sox player involved in the competition, allowed four runs yesterday in Licey’s 10-6 comeback win over Mazatlan.
