I personally see where Stern is coming from, but in a matter like this, I can't see how you can hand out a suspension. Sure, he broke a league rule, but when he entered the stands, he was peaceful and civil, and didn't threaten anyone. He went in there because he believed his wife was in danger, and I would hope that any other player would get the same instinct to do so.

If anything, you suspend him one game. Not five, that's just too much, as he was only trying to protect his wife.

I agree completely. Tough to suspend a guy when he acted in the same manner as any other player would have. What Antonio Davis did was absolutely the right thing -- he didn't act, at all, in a violent manner. It would be different if he had a history, but he's a classy guy. Hate to see him suspended five games for this one.

Yep....I was very nervouse.....very nervouse while it was happing as to why it was happening..but when I found out why, I respected him even more.

The funny thing is, Davis would even get more criticized if he didn't go to the stands at all to protect his wife.

Props to Antonio. Stupid decision by Stern.

No doubt you protect your family member; he was not out of line in any way. David stern, by penalizing him is saying "you were wrong and the wasted drunkard in the stands harassing your wife was alright...oh and this is a family activity to go to the games everyone" i mean, hes being an idiot by apeealing to youths and then condoning alcoholism and the idiocy that it entails... I really see no wrong in this, ejection, yes, thats the rules but not only was he defending his wife but he didnt do anything, he just walked up and that was basically it;no fine should be issued

Terrible suspension. The guy was protecting his wife, and didn't put his hands on anybody. How can you expect someone to sit there and watch while their wife gets harassed? Ray Allen got 3 games and Keyon Dooling got 5 games for fighting on the court. With Dooling getting 5 for trying to go after Allen in the back. Is what davis did as bad as what Dooling did?

i hate stern more than i hate bin laden

Overstatement of the century.

But I get what you're saying

Yes, Stern loves to make statements through his punishments/fines and other actions. But by sending this message, he's saying it's not okay to protect your family. He needs to get off his high horse, as sit the f*** down for once and respect a player for defending his wife.

I agree with everyone here that he did the right thing, but I see where Stern is coming from. Once he gets lienent about one thing it will lead to another.

And don't make me the bad guy here, I woulda have probably decked the guy had it been my wife up there but Stern giving him this suspension is keeping the NBA rules in-line and proving he won't bend one way or another on anything.

It's a hairy sitaution and one where I would understand either outcome (suspension or no suspension), but it would probably be better if he didn't get suspended.

Well, right. I understand the suspension, and I think that's fine, but when you look at FIVE games for this small of an offense, it's just not right. Look at the other suspension handed out...Keyon Dooling got 5 games for fighting with Ray Allen. This was way too harsh. What Stern is saying by sending out this suspension is:

Antonio Davis going into the stands to protect his wife is just as bad as Keyon Dooling fighting with Ray Allen.

I'm sorry, but at the appeal this suspension needs to be reduced, assuming there is an appeal. Antonio Davis is one of the most respectable people in the league and there's no way he deserves this punishment.

You got a point there. I never thought about the Dooling thing. I mean damn...I thought Dooling and Ray would have got a helluva lot longer suspension then they did. Yeah I could see ONE for Antonio, kinda like a slap on the wrist just to show that he's sticking to the rules, but you have a very valid point that is what he's saying by the equal suspension times.
