Manny is almost as bad in right as Griffey is in center. Moving Manny to right field would be a disaster. Manny's arm is good cuz hes accurate and has a quick release. Those throws would get a lot longer from right.

The one thing is that Cincinnati wouldn't go for it. Reason: Ken Griffey has more value than Trot Nixon and Felipe Lopez has more value than Matt Clement. However, if we were to aquire Felipe Lopez we no longer have a use for Dustin Pedroia. That could be the player that gets the deal done. Trade Matt Clement (ace for Cincinnati), Trot Nixon, and Dustin Pedroia (possibly better suited for the NL) for Felipe Lopez and Ken Griffey.

I really don't think it would be wise to trade Clement, Nixon AND Pedroia for an over-the-hill, injury prone OFer and an infielder whose numbers likely aren't better than what we can expect from Pedroia by the year after next. Including last year's breakout season (.291 .352. 486. 838) Lopez's career ops is .743. I don't think he's a bad player; just not worth Clement, Trot and Pedroia.

If you could pull it off, though, without Pedroia, I could see Lopez and Pedroia as the shortstop-second baseman combination of the future. Perhaps Arroyo, Nixon and someone else (Graff?) for Lopez and Griffey. I'm not sold on Griffey at all, especially as it would be a long term deal for a questionable (as QUESTIONABLE as they come) power hitter, at a high price. If he plays RF he's bound to get injured in that vast outfield with its weird corner, and if the sox try to rest him then he's not worth the 12 million. Damon was reliable; he produced nearly every day which should earn him 12 million before Griffey does. Damon is not worth 12 million to the Sox and neither is Griffey. If they could get someone really good in addition to Griffey they could pull off a Beckett/Lowell deal to get a cheap young player and throw Griffey in to lose his salary.

A healthy full-season of griffey would make the Sox lineup as good as it has been over the past few years, I don't care who plays CF or SS.

Youkilis

Loretta

Ortiz

Manny

Griffey

Varitek

Lowell

Cora

Reed

I've heard that Griffey doesn't really want to play in Boston, but you would think he would love a chance to win a World Series in the final 3 years of his current (and perhaps last) conract.

Well aware, but Griff would be no better and for the sake of preserving his health you play him in the smallest outfield in the AL in fenways left. Its what you do. I'm not certain manny would be a disaster either.Kevin Millar wasn't even a disaster. Manny is a better fielder than Millar. I personally don't want much to do with Griff, but if we did land him, we would have to do everything we could to get him through the season and playing him in right field would not last long. He can't play a taxing position. Granted, any ML position on the field is taxing enough, I would put him in left.

I'm sorry Griffey bad in center? Yeah he's lost a step but before injury he was far and away the best CF in the game, and he was one of the best CFers last year when he was healthy.

It appears the name of the day is Coco Crisp....at least the wheels are turning and Theo is back....along with Arroyo being signed to a three year deal and hopefully Ortiz getting an extension soon.

Agreed on who is starting to be the most likely option. I would be thrilled to hear if Sox were able to latch onto Crisp, center field and lead off hitter is solved and now lets get to spring training please.

This is the only possible trade that I wouldnt be totally devastated if Marte was sent packing there. As opposed to Marte for a 1 season worth of Lugo, no thank you. We know we are getting talent for talent, Crisp is in his prime years (age 26) and has proven himself in the majors. The newest speculation is that multiple players would be switching sides...

I have to believe that Andy Marte and a bullpen guy (probably Mota) are going to Cleveland at least. Of course Crisp is coming to Boston, but what makes sense?

We've already discussed Jhonny Peralta and if the Sox could get him and Crisp in a Marte deal without giving up Lester or Papelbon they'd obviously be stealing from the Guardians. Brandon Phillips? His stock seems to have plumeted and he's at the age where he really should be ready for the big leagues (24) but struggled at AAA.

I like Crisp and he seems like one of the best options out there for center, but it'd be real hard to trade Marte for him. Andy's 4 years younger and is probably ready for the bigs right now, and as a right handed hitter with some pop he's got a ton of value in my book.

It will be interesting to see what develops. Obviously a Marte for Crisp deal helps us out in the short term, but long term with no real 3B of the future and Lowell coming off a down year, is that a smart choice? offense is so much harder to find at third than it is in the outfield, and if Marte can live up to his potential he'd be an amazing cornerstone. Really I see Andy Marte as a solution RIGHT NOW if Lowell or Youkilis get hurt as a right handed bat....

we do need to keep in mind that other players could be part of the deal. I also find it hard to deal Andy Marte and a bullpen guy like Mota for Coco Crisp. We lose in that deal cause we are moving a potential gold glove and 40 home run hitter in Andy Marte. I have a feeling there would be more to a possible deal. I just keep hoping I hear the name Peralta or Sizemore.
