It looks like its down to the " Big Five ". Either one of : ARod2212, Schillingouttheks, or See Red will clinch at the end of today, or One Red Seat and CalvnHobs6 will battle it out in the Superbowl and maybe the the total points scored. Regardless of the outcome, there will be a prize for the Super Bowl ( the correct winner and the total points scored ), so don't despair. There is a strong possibility that there will also be a separate contest for the Super Bowl, details will follow after the games.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but if either of ARod2212, Schillingouttheks, or See Red gets both picks right, that still doesn't clinch it. Follow my reasoning:

1. Suppose ARod2212 is right on both games, he gains +2 points making his total 6.

2. SeeRed, Calvn, and ORS (myself) would both split their games making their totals 4.

3. All three would have to pick differently than ARod in the Super Bowl, but if they were right, there would be a four way tie at 5 total points. Which would make total points the tie breaker.

Other scenarios could result in similar situations. Whoever of ARod, Schilling, and SeeRed gets both games right will be the leader, but anyone who has at least one game picked the same as the leader would still be alive. Only those that picked both games differently from the leader would be eliminated. Perhaps I'm assessing the situation incorrectly, but that is what it seems like to me.

EDIT: And Ray10 could get into the mix if Denver and Carolina win since that would put him 2 points behind See Red. He'd just be forced to pick differently than See Red in the Super Bowl.

You're entirely correct. I was concentrating of is the permutations were covered, as far as people below ( points wise ) my self included as to who would be out of it. Been doing to much tax crap and trying to set up potential contests for the Super Bowl. Thanks for the clarification, I really want as many people to still have a shot.

Regardless of who wins Seattle/Carolina, Pittsburgh is my pick to win the Super Bowl. I'd like to see the spreads to be sure, but I'm seeing a Pitt win.

Let's go HAWKS!

Posted
I'm not too worried at this point. Delhomme has been awful, Steve Smith has been solidly covered, Hasselbeck has been DURTAY. Excellent game on both sides of the ball for Seattle, and this Carolina team doesn't look like that same one that played the Pats. Delhomme doesn't look like that playoff superstar he's been in the past.

That was an absolutley filthy catch by Seneca Wallace...wasn't he drafted as a QB?

He is Seattle's second string QB. He played the majority of the game vs. the Colts, and vs. the Packers. That was his first NFL reception.

Ouch, Shilling not picking Seattle with a 9.5 point spread, Hawks win, don't pick them with a 3.5 point spread, well the Hawks are well on their way.

Nice pickin' Calvn; great minds think alike. Like you, I like Pittsburg without thinking about it too hard. If we both go that way, that leaves the door open for schillingouttheks and ARod2212. The possibility of a 4 way tie still looms. Interesting to say the least. I'd be shocked if the opening line is greater than 4, so it will pretty much become an outright pick. This one will require some consideration.

I'm pretty stoked to even be considered in the same league as you right now, you're one of the most well versed statistical baseball minds I've seen on the internet...and I'm sure that translates well into football. It's funny to think that Pittsburgh might not even be in the Super Bowl if it wasn't for Palmer going down, and now I'm almost certainly picking them outright unless it's a ridiculous line. Even funnier to think #6 AFC is the favorite over #1 NFC. I believe I heard on ESPN the spread will be somewhere around 4 points. Good luck to everyone!

If ORS and I didn't pick...we'd just tie leaving no chance for Schill and A-Rod...but that's no fun.

EDIT: Just re-read the rules...I have to pick the superbowl.

Well guys, it's Super Bowl time. There are two tied for first and two more 2 points behind. There is a possibility of up yo a four way tie. So remember, make those Total Points Scored predictions. This is especially true for those that have been eliminated. Because, I've added an additional prize for the closest to the total points scored during the Super Bowl. It is open to the 18 participants of this contest. This prize will be $ 50.

Winner of the Contest : $ 200

Winner of Total Points : $ 50

In the next few days, I will be posting another contest ," The Super Bowl Grid Contest ".
