Mets would send Heilman and Matsui (and $5 million) to Tampa Bay for Lugo. Then New York would send Lugo, Kris Benson, Brian Bannister and Victor Diaz to Baltimore for Tejada, and then send Tejada to the Red Sox for Manny Ramirez.

From Bostondirtdogs.com

Also rumored on BDD (and reported in Baltimore) is that the Sox offered Clement and Manny for Tejada.

To me it sounds like the 4 way trade is way too complicated actually be finalized, but what do I know.

way too confusing to happen i think

Mets would get Manny Ramirez

O's would get Lugo, Benson, Bannister, Diaz

Red Sox would get Tejada

Devil Rays would get Heilman and Matsui

id be fine with it if it happend, but i dont think the O's are getting enough in return

IF it does happen (and that's a HUGE if IMO), the Red Sox will be taking one problem (shortstop) and filling it with another (left field). The only thing it would solve is getting rid of Manny's huge salary and an unhappy player.

Tejada is one of the top shortstops in the game and this would be a decent move. Left field is easier (IMO) to fill with a productive offensive player than shortstop is.

Cityofchampions-- if the Mets get ahold of Tejada, they KNOW the Red Sox are willing to do a 1 for 1, how could the Red Sox work a prospect into the deal?

Personally I like the deal from the Red Sox perspective..... I just doubt it will because of the complexity of it.

Yes it would be much much easier to fill given the fact that tehre are 3 times as more OFs that can play LF than SS. I like this a lot for acouple of reasons:

As you said, it would go straight up, we wouldn't have to ass a pitcher that we could use for Reed/Crisp

and also Manny would be in the NL, not the AL East.

If the Sox were able to pry away Lastings Milledge in this "supposed trade", I'd be happy with it.

I agree though, Orioles in this 4 way wouldnt be getting too much to compensate for losing their big bat and leader of the team.

I was thinking Lastings to Boston considering the Sox will have a shortstop, but then be left out of a left fielder.

mlbtraderumors.com is reporting that the Orioles would receive a package of Julio Lugo, Kris Benson, pitching prospect Brian Bannister, and Victor Diaz from the Mets.

i like the trade with the cubs with us getting prior and patterson prior can be a great 3rd starter less wear and tear plus titos a better manager than busty baker

Manny for Tejada seems pointless. As already said, we would be substituting shortcomings in one position for shortcomings in another, and Tejada is a notch below manny offensively. Why let the teams around us improve at our cost?

busty does not know how to manage ... why would you make prior after injury pitch 200 innings thats just bad coaching ... so are you from new england area

the mets might need to include milledge to the orioles for this to even be possible.

why dont the Sox include a prospect for the Orioles? I heard they were willing to do Manny and Clement for tejada, so im sure Manny and a prospect wouldnt be that hard for them to do. And also the fact that he wont be in the AL East is a plus, and even more incentive to get this done.

The Mets are not giving up Milledge, we would already be giving up a big package as it is.

I would like this deal for the Mets, though I think it might be a little too much to give up.

I'd rather Manny go to an NL team, instead of the Orioles. We'll see, though. Usually, the more teams involved, the more likely the deal falls through.

I just can't see the D-Rays taking on Matsui without the Mets paying some of his contract. They are a low budget team that can't afford a big contract for a cast away 2B/SS.

Agreed, thats oen of the big weak points in this deal that will make it fall through, tehre's no way theyd be happy with that package. Especially if they didn't accept Marte for Lugo

hey does anyone think marte is damage goods

Why cant we just talk Manny to stay and contiune to build around Ortiz/Ramirez, Manny will not just retire, and Manny has hardly ever been a distraction in the clubhouse, he mainly keeps to him self. I put up with the little incidents for 300 45 150 every day of the week.

Serisouly, I dont know why you guys just cant keep Manny. He does this every year and still puts up those gawdy numbers.

Thats what I would do, only if we couldn't get anyone of equal value for him. I would love to get Tejada because he is a dirtdog leader that will play everyday and has a hunger for winning. He can fill our hole at SS and could combine with Pedroia to make another Miggy-Roberts combo up the middle. Also, as it has been mentioned, it is far easier to fill up an OF spot than a SS spot.

The only thing with Manny, is he almost has a bipolar type feeling towards Boston and playing here. He wants to stay here, he doesn't, and all of his issues with Boston are easily solvable, but it just hasn't gotten to him yet. Also he has talked about retiring at the end of this contract, and getting Miggy now would substitute for the loss we would get if he did.

Miguel tejada solves more than just the self-made hole at SS but he also:

1) Provides a stable leader

2) Gives you a complete player to man the infield

3) Can teach young players (Pedroia, Marte) how to reach their potential on both offense and defense

4) Gets rid of any Manny distractions

5) Gives a player who can take up the spotlight while humble players/rookies do not have to worry about the media.

Dont encourage them to keep him!!!

...I want him OUT of the AL East.

I cant respect Tejada as any sort fo leader ever since I saw Giambi chew him out for loafing it on the bases while they were both on the A's during the first round against the Yanks

And you take seriosuly what the juicer Giambi says? Tejada only did that because he was frustrated with losing 3 straight to the Yanks.

He SAW Giambi "chew him out", he didnt hear Giambi say that he chewed him out. I remember this as well, and it wasnt after the series against the Yankees that it happened, at least im pretty sure it wasnt if memory serves correctly.

tejada probaly wont be traded

The Orioles are on the brink of abandoning their effort to trade disgruntled shortstop Miguel Tejada, who has expressed a desire to leave Baltimore because the team has not done enough to improve itself during the offseason.

"There is absolutely no deal we find acceptable to trade this very special player to another team," an Orioles official said.

Tejada is entering the third year of a $72 million, six-year contract. He hit .304 with 26 homers and 98 RBIs in 2004, but that wasn't good enough to prevent the Orioles from logging their eighth consecutive losing season.

The Orioles are believed to have discussed Tejada with the Cubs, Red Sox, White Sox and Angels, among others. ESPN's Peter Gammons says the Orioles are currently considering Boston's offer of Manny Ramirez and Matt Clement for Tejada. Dec. 28 - 9:22 pm et
