i think this makes the nationals much better and the rangers even worse than they were. the nationals were close to making the playoffs last year, i think this deal will help them on there way to possibly winning the wildcard.

i sure hope you mean the nationals are the retarted ones.. they traded wilkerson, sledge and their best (i believe) pitching prospect for soriano. basically garbage. soriano sucks and it'll show at rfk stadium, while wilkerson is going to mash homers.

 

vidro, when healthy is superior to soriano defensively and if he was put in arlington would hit 30+ homers, just like soriano.. even if the nats move soriano to the OF it would be a stupid trade.. they'll downgrade defensively and offensively from wilkerson..

 

wilkerson for soriano trade would have been bad enough for the nats.. but throw in sledge and their best pitching prospect.. they let themselves get robbed.

edit: i just read the other replies, god damn you guys are stupid.. soriano is garbage, how can you guys not see this. he's awful defensively and refuses to move to the OF because he's an "all star", which means jack s*** because he sucks. he strikes out FOUR times as many as he walks.. FOUR. a 4:1 K:BB ratio.. that's GARBAGE. his OBP was .309 last year, that's worse than renteria!

 

wilkerson last year had a .350 obp that's .041 higher than soriano!!!! his career obp is .365 and is going to mash 30+ homers at arlington.. my god, texas RAPED the nationals, not to mention that they won't have to deal with sorianos contract which is 4 million more than wilkersons (7.5 compared to 3.5, not to mention soriano is older by a year).

 

this deal is TERRIBLE for the nats.. anyone who can't see this is blind. they basically knocked themselves out of the post season for sure (not that they've ever been there). soriano denies any rumors that he'll move from 2b, therefore making it a position where they have downgraded defensively, vidro will doubtfully move to the OF where he has only played 3 games in his career. the only option is moving vidro to 3rd where he's played 35 games, but what do you do with vinny castilla (if he's still under contract)..

I don't know aout Wilkerosn "mashing" HR's he hit 11, that's not mashing it even at RFK.

 

Soriano almsot hit 40-40 his first year in the bigs, he sure as hell isn't garbage he hit 36 homers w/ 104 RBI. He had an off season as far as average goes but it happens to the best of them, his previous averages were .280 .290 and .300, he is most certainly not garbage.

average does not mean jack. take bellhorn as your prime example, the guy's average was a terrible .260, but his on base percentage was .360 which is above league average.

 

i'de take bellhorn with a .360 obp over soriano's PUNY .309 obp ANYDAY ANYTIME ANYWHERE. his highest career obp was .338, that's GARBAGE. 40-40 doesn't mean s***. stealing bases is the best way to create outs. the guy strikes out all the time, never takes a walk, but just because he hit a high number of home runs he's good?

 

soriano is garbage, anyone who knows anything about baseball knows this.. i'll put money on him not hitting more than 25 hr's, betting lower than .270, and getting on base lower than .320. i mean for pete's sake this guy hit .244/.291/.444 on the road!

 

yeah, wilkerson hit 11 hr's, but that's at RFK, when an expo he hit 32. his obp was also .374 with the expos in 04 and .351 in 05 with the nats. not to mention he had 84 walks to his 147 ks' compared to 30'sbb to 130'sK.

 

wilkerson himself is far superior to soriano..

 

i'm so sick and tired of the damn espn analyst / people drooling over soriano. when will they see that he is not this elite defensive 2b they all think he is? the damn guys OPS+ was only 110 last year in ARLINGTON!!!!! a kids ballpark. wilkerson had an OPS+ of 104, lower than soriano, mainly because he plays at RFK. wilkerson will slug over .500 in arlington and his OPS is going to be great.

 

everyone will see how terrible soriano is in 06, i can't wait.
