Phillies sign Tom Gordon

ESPNEWS has on their heralded bottom right corner that Gordon has just signed a 3 year deal with the Phillies.

With Gordon gone to Phillies and Farnsworth apparently almost under wraps with the Yanks, the Sox will have to look somewhere else to add to their bullpen. Julian Taverez, in my opinion, would be the best fit.

worth 18 million, damn, BJ Ryan really set the bar high for this market...here are the big relief signings this season:

Scott Eyre - 3 yrs, 11 million

Bobby Howry - 3 yrs, 12 million

BJ Ryan - 5 yrs, 47 million

Billy Wagner - 4 yrs, 43 million

Tom Gordon - 3 yrs, 18 million

And Farnsworth should get around 20 million for 4 years I think. This is getting a bit ridiculous.

Yep, I think if the sox are going to grab up a reliever this offseason, which they should, its gotta be taveras. Hes a valuable guy who isn't hector carrasco and will pretty much shore up the bullpen for next year.

I'm a little weary of Tavares because his days as a Cardinal were riddled with wall-punching anger fits, weren't they?

 

Seems like a guy with a bad attitude to me, not the kind of guy the Sox would recruit. Maybe I'm wrong though.

 

After Gordon and Farnsworth, the talent does drop off significantly. You're looking at the Jose Mesa's and the Todd Jones' of the world as the next level of relievers.

The deal looks very similar to the Farnsworth deal, but Flash will close in Philly.

Im not surprised it happened, but I kind of expected him to re-sign. All I know is that this puts more pressure on us to get this thing wrapped up with Farnsworth. And him and his agent know that, thats why Texas is in the picture.
