WSCR 670 in Chicago is reporting that the Cubs are close to acquiring Juan Pierre from the Marlins for three prospects.

One would be left-hander Renyel Pinto. According to the report, center fielder Felix Pie wouldn't be involved. Another expendable reliever probably would be. Roberto Novoa or Jermaine Van Buren could help the Marlins.

I read that earlier. Wow, Cubbies are getting everyone. Best part about this trade is that they dont lose Felix Pie.

I really wanted the Sox to make a run at Pierre considering Damon is so greedy.
You don't want Pierre, his carrer OBP is terrible, it's like .315 or something. I was kind of hoping the Yankees would get him.

EDIT: Career OBP is .355 that's pretty bad for a lead off man.

Do you have a way to determine his OBP from 2003-on. His days in Colorado werent that great, he didnt really establish himself until he got traded to Florida. So maybe thats why, but I could better asess if I saw his obp from 2003-2005

The formula is fairly straightforward, and you can get the variable values needed on just about any sports related website.

OBP = (H + BB + HBP)/(AB + BB + HBP + SF)

I'm glad you came back to edit that. Johnny Damon's career OBP is .353 though, and I think he's a pretty good leadoff hitter. .353 isn't that good, but it isn't the only indicator of a players value. That being said, stay away from Pierre.

ESPN Radio said the Yanks made a trade to get Pierre for Melky Cabrera but then came back on later to say it was really the Cubs. Anyways, the trade is officially complete now.

Good Thing. I do NOT want Melky traded.

I wouldnt mind having Pierre though.

I dont think the trade is official yet, it's the weekend. A holiday weekend at that. I doubt Bud is going to go into the office on a Sunday to sign off on a trade like this. He's never done it before. And besides, that site isn't the most reliable in the world. They said that the Mets and Wagner agreed on a deal like last week.
