well, I guess the best comparison to your points would be to ask you would a rich guy notice that he was missing 4 or 5 bux from his paycheck versus a guy on welfare? Marginalized members of society often are much more sensitive to things like that than others. And I do believe most white people have noticed the lack of white people in the NBA, it's one of the biggest reasons for its current status as the 3rd most popular league behind football and baseball. Even if they on the surface don't see it as a problem, the fact is they will subconciously tune out the game because its harder for Joe Public middle aged White Guy to connect with Allen Iverson than Randy Johnson or Peyton Manning. race is always an issue in most things. Its more subtle for white folks, and less subtle for minorities.

Again, like I said though, Joe's tone in that article was extremely antagonizing.

Yes I agree that most white people have probably noticed the lack of whites in the NBA, BUT have you heard about it nationally? Have you heard Bill Walton all the sudden in the middle of annoncing a game stop and go "Wow theres not a single white guy on either of these teams." Infact have you ever heard anyone white man make a single serious comment about the lack of whites in the NBA? If so then I apologize, but I can't say that I can think of a single instance.

Let me just make something clear. I'm in no way saying that there shouldn't be more black players in MLB. I'm simply saying that I'm sick and f***ing tired of hearing a different minority bitch every week about being treated unfairly.

Well that just goes back to my point that even though its something that both sides is affected by or notice in their own way, blacks will bring it more to the surface, while whites will not mention it. It's the same approach that Asians take also, which is probably why most whites consider them to be the model minority, since they are like minded in this aspect.

btw, in no way am I criticizing anyone who speaks out about racial discrimination. I am merely making observations on people who tend to go overboard with making race an issue in almost everything, from waiting an extra 5 minutes for your order, to noticing the lack of blacks in MLB

wasnt there a big thing regarding a statement made by Larry Bird?

Actually yeah, well sort of. Larry didn't complain about whites being underrepresented or what not. They were in a little different context

He just said that there should be more white players in the NBA. I don't think that's racist at all. He even admitted that basketball is a black man's game.

yeah, I know there was no racism intended or anything but I was just replying to MC hammer's statement

I call what Bird did making a serious comment. He wasnt complaining or anything, I know.

Now that it's mentioned I do remember Bird's statement, but I believe he said, for the game to be more popular it must have more whites. Not just a broad statement that the sport needs more white guys.

Look at the reaction after Nash won the MVP last season, you had people saying it was racist. Im sick of the BS, and guys like Stepehn A Dick make it worse by turning everything into a race issue.

I tend to agree with the thinking that the Nash MVP was a bit color-skewed. Not necessarily a case of "lets screw the black man and get in the white boy" but along more subtle lines.

Phoenix Suns

2003: 29 53 - 5th worst in the NBA (without Steve Nash)

2004: 62 20 - Best in the NBA (with Steve Nash)

... gimmie a break dude.

I'm not disagreeing with the Nash pick. I am simply pointing out that I'm sure there were more than a few writers who saw someone who was different than the Iversons of the NBA world and jumped at the first chance to reward him for it.

Don't forget that the Suns were 0-5 with Nash being sidelined by an injury.

Yep.

Anyway Nash deserved MVP, and we need to let this conversation go. It really has little to do with the World Series, and it's not actually worth discussing anymore.

You know whats funny is you dont see White Sox fans bitching like Angels fans about a blown call. Lanes HR wasnt a HR, but did they bitch about it, no. They went out and made sure that didnt determine the outcome of the game.

can anyone tell me why adam everett was put on the batting lineup for today's game?? he's the definition of choke in the playoffs, grounded out to end the 2nd inning and is now frigging 0 for 15 with RISP in the playoffs.

----------------------------------------------

oh what the hell McCarver? this stupid ass "seperated by birth" side by side comparison of Freddy Garcia and Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson? this is a waste of tv air, they do not at all look alike.

i am rooting for the astros through and through. but a part of me hopes this gets over soon

the sooner the offseason begins, im quite anxious to get the ball rolling ;)

Same. At first I was like, " this might not be so bad, I can just be a casual fan of the game. No pressure to have my team win or anything, I can just enjoy the game." But umm, not so much. This World Series is boring me to death. I couldn't even really get into the marathon game last night, I just wanted it to end.;)

or that foul ball podsy hit. we didn't say a word til now when you mentioned how well we took it.

It's because the White Sox benefit from a lot more bad calls than the other team. Whatever though.

it never ceases. what a bunch of whiners we've played this post season.

waaahhh, they got more calls! really? cuz i can name a lot of bad ball strike calls that ruined rallies for us in the post season. we didn't mention anything about it.

we just WON.

boring you to death, huh?

grand slams, walk off home runs, 14-inning nail biters won off home runs that a benchwarmer hits, the american league all-star game starter coming it to close it out after 17 pitchers...

and you're bored.

sounds like you aren't a baseball fan at all. sounds like you're a homer. one year out of how many we don't have to listen to all that east coast garbage and you all get snobby. amazing after one year you get so glib and so smug.
