It seems unlikely the Phillies would trade him but what will they do with Howard and Thome? Jim Thome seems to present a huge problem with the fact he has a big contract that nobody would want to pick up for an older injured 1st baseman. Since this is an NL team its not like one of them can DH and I've talked to a few people I know in Philly....neither has a chance playing in the OF or any position other than 1B.

Now we are all going to talk about Huff, Konerko, Overbay, Tracy....etc...obviously someone is coming to Boston and playing 1B. I would love to get my hands on this guy though. For those who saw Ryan Howard play this season you were probably intrigued by him as much as I was. Does he not look like the 2nd coming of David Ortiz? This kid is a tank with a great swing and lots of power. At 25 years old he is going to be a 40 HR hitter at some point. He came up with some huge hits for the Phillies this season at crucial moments...this just leads more to the fact the Phillies wouldn't trade him....but at what lengths would everyone go to aquire him??

hell no ryan howard isn't going to be traded...they'll save money with howard, and have a young guy too...there is no way howard will be traded...anyway chad tracy is much better...he has a higher BA(.288 as compared to .308), more homers(22 as compared to 27), and less Ks(howard whiffed 100 times in 88 games, tracey only 73 in 145)..true tracey played more games than howard, but tracey is a much better, younger choice

Believe it or not brainwashed Red Sox fans, stats arent always all that matter. Ryan Howard is a gamer, and for a rookie wih limited playing time last year he impressed very much. I would take him over Chad Tracy in a HEARTBEAT.

That being said, the Phillies are not stupid, and do not plan on trading him. If they can tarde a 1B they will try to trade Thome. They will likely be wiling to eat a portion of the contract and try to send him to someone in need. If not, they will work a platoon most likely.

And you still don't get why people are so confrontational with you.

you calling me brainwashed?:wtf: if you'd take howard(a big homer, big K guy) over a all around guy like chad tracey(high BA, 27 homers, 60+RBIs this year) your the brainwashed dummy now

Watch, sox will keep us on the edge of our seats and probably not even announce a new 1st baseman until the end of the year ;)

look for the yankees to be competition in the 1st baseman market. Plans are to shift Giambi as a full time DH considering his lack of defense he has exhibited this season.

At 25 years old I'm not going to say Ryan Howard will be the next Mark Bellhorn. Lots of guys get better the more they play and tend to read pitches better...which leads to less strikeouts. I'm going for Howard over Tracy....also....

I really hate it when people are so 100% confident guys won't be traded. In major league baseball not one player is guaranteed to stay on a team...especially not Howard (although I think he is real good) there are plenty of players out there the Phillies would love to get there hands on who would make a huge difference in there team. I dont think hitting is there problem.

A better phrase for "so-and-so won't be traded..." is "We would have to give an arm and a leg for him." That's an interesting idea. The Phillies love the guy, hes a great POWER hitter, and is in their future plans. Would take alot to get him, he would be a HUGE upgrade over Millar, and would love to see him in a Red Sox uniform. His only knock is his K rate. Power hitters strike out though. Him behind Manny or Tek, would be INSANE. But he's a stretch in my mind. Nice idea though.

1st soriano...... now tracy

look at both of their career stats...don't give me any bs about what soriano's RISP average was, the fact is he scored 102 runs and batted in 104 this year while being a 30/30 guy...and tracey, this is a no brainer...look at his stats from this year(his 1st full year), batted over .300 with 27 HRs, and 60+ RBIs...he's also young and could be our future 1st baseman for a long time if we just gave some people up(clement and arroyo/abe or paid for some of clement's contract)
