ugh well so far yanks got the lead, i just realized they are playing a day game today

Blue Jays say Chacin, while Yankees say Chacon

Toronto (64-62) at NY Yankees (69-56)

Shawn Chacon is no longer a stopgap measure for the New York Yankees. The 27-year-old right-hander will look to turn in yet another outstanding start when he takes the ball for the Yankees in the finale of their four-game series with the Toronto Blue Jays. Acquired July 28 from Colorado, Chacon has been a revelation since joining New York's injury-ravaged rotation. A former closer, Chacon is 2-0 with a 1.64 ERA in five starts and one relief appearance for the Yankees. Not bad for someone who was picked up to temporarily plug some holes.

"He doesn't get intimidated by anything, wants to be out there, and doesn't want to come out of the game,'' Yankees catcher Jorge Posada said of Chacon. "It's fun to see, because anyone that wants the ball that badly usually does the things he's been doing.'' Chacon had perhaps his finest outing of the season Saturday, throwing eight innings of four-hit ball in the Yankees' 5-0 win over the league-best Chicago White Sox. "We needed him to fill a spot for us, and he did, but he's given us much more than we could have anticipated,'' Yankees manager Joe Torre said.

Chacon said he has learned a lot recently by watching Mike Mussina take his turn in the rotation, so it was no coincidence to see Chacon dominate the White Sox a day after Mussina shut Chicago down in a 3-1 win. "It's great following him,'' Chacon said of Mussina. "He told me to watch the hitters to see if they change their approach. I mixed it up and kept them off balance.'' However, Chacon will have to be a lot better than his teammate was on Wednesday if the Yankees are to win this series and keep the pressure on in the AL wild-card race. New York fell into a virtual three-way tie for the wild-card lead with Oakland and Cleveland with Wednesday's 9-5 loss. Mussina carried a shutout into the fifth before he allowed eight of Toronto's nine runs in the inning.

Vernon Wells hit a three-run homer for the Blue Jays, who snapped a five-game losing streak and moved within 4 1/2 games of the wild-card lead.

Oh c'mon, after yesterday's "disaster", why not put more emotion into that? ;)

Good. :)

Edit: That's more like it! I'd shout it myself, but you know what's going on my neighborhood right now. <_>

Today was a great game to attend. Crowd was into it off the bat (Sheffield helped that), and Matsui proved once again that he is the f***ing man. Cute girl with a lower back tattoo agreed with me, she had a sign for Hideki a few rows up. Lots of Navy guys in my section for the game. There hasn't been that much seamen on the bleachers since Michael Jackson attended a game with the Boys & Girls Club.

(yes, boo terrible)

Edit- shiit, we gained a game too. Nice f***ing day.

When I look at Chacon and realize what we gave up for him (two minor league pitchers, not even prospects) I can't help but think that Cashman still has it.

Overall...good series.

Time to repay the Royals for what they did to us earlier this season.

You're a Yankee fan...jig is up! Right?

I like you even more, darling. :D

Of course I'm a Yankee fan; not much to be optimistic about in "Red Sox Nation."

Well at least you'll keep honest and spark a little rivalry ( like Sox and Yanks fan don't have enough ). But you're right, how many games are you in front ? We may not be able to say for long, but we are the reigning Worls Champs. lol

A title you guys fought for and very much deserve...(I'm saying that as a baseball fan, not a Yankee fan.)
