Just heard this on the radio "Well the Orioles' season still is getting hurt with each day that goes by. The same night they had a loss to the Angels, Sydney Ponson was arrested for driving drunk, was over the legal limit of alcohol in his body

Orioles' Ponson charged with drunken driving

August 25, 2005

BALTIMORE (AP) -- Sidney Ponson was arrested early Thursday on a drunken-driving charge, the latest legal problem for the pitcher considered the ace of the Baltimore Orioles staff a year ago. Maryland Transportation Authority Police arrested him on Interstate 95, just south of Baltimore, said Cpl. Pamela Thorne, a spokeswoman for the agency. Spokesman John Ryan said Ponson was stopped for tailgating, given a field sobriety test and was charged with driving under the influence and driving while impaired. The Orioles and Ponson's agent, Barry Praver, did not immediately return a call.

Ponson was charged in January with driving under the influence in Florida, and the case has not yet been resolved. That arrest came weeks after he spent 11 days in an Aruban jail for a Christmas Day fight at a beach. He apologized for the fight and reached a settlement that involved community service and a charitable contribution. A year ago, Ponson was considered the team's ace and was the opening day pitcher in 2004. He is 7-11 with a 6.21 ERA and hasn't won since June 18. He has been on the disabled list with a calf strain and hasn't pitched since Aug. 7. An MRI Wednesday found a torn thumb ligament, and he was expected to be sidelined at least three more weeks.

The funnier part of this is when they were showing highlights of him on a show I was watching they showed 2 strikeouts of his. Both of Mark Bellhorn. I mean if that's the best highlights you can come up with that's weak. Those K's should have an asterisk next to his name.

Sir Sidney seems to be having worse problems this year, I think his drinking is getting out of hand and that probably is why his performance on the field has deteriorated too. I hope he cac turn his`life around like Dennis Martinez did.

What a retard. He gets a chance of a lifetime to pitch for a Major League Baseball team and almost screws it up? I just don't get that.

I heard he was also over the legal limit of krispy kreme donoughts.

Ok excuse the fat joke. It's just soooo needed.

What a wreck. Kinda sad in a way.

Haha. You better watch comments like that with Wells on the team now.

the first time offender has done it on average 250 times before getting caught.
That's a misleading stat. Some people hold alcohol better than others. Let's jsut say my friend "Joe" holds alcohol pretty well, like most people who have gone to college. Now he may be .01 over the legal limit, but still be able to drive home as if he was perfectly sober. So yes technically people usually do it over 250 times but in reality msot o fthe time they are fine.

P.S: No I do not condone drinking and driving.

^^ 87% of stats are false. That in itself may be a contradicting stat... ;)

First off, if a person is pulled over, "caught", s/he, I would assume, would demonstrate some pretty suspicious driving. <_ everybody thinks ok except even a second glass starts impairing judgment vision and it hard enough to drive on the roads sober with maniacs looming. breathalyzer doesn lie alibi please after all they need some sort of objective standard charge people by. in states if you are intoxicated but not over limit might still slap dwi. dui stay records for long time.>

Want misleading? "Lite" beer, is not required by the FDA to be light in anything at all...except color. Pssh. So you're not really shaving off the calories, contrary to what you may have been led to think.

Gosh, I don't think I could recite the alphabet backwards even when sober. Hmm.

P.S. No I don't think that of you, it's just that I'm sick of some, let's just say, "nice"-person-who-made-a-very-bad-decision-one-night-careens-into-mother-and-stroller, stories.

P.P.S. Dwight Gooden has apparently been getting himself into trouble again...even nephew Sheffield (-oids, according to some of you) says he can't help him now.

I don't care how somoene holds their liquor. You should never get behind the wheel after drinking. Anyone dumb enough to get in a car even after having one drink deserves to be caught. And hopefully caught before they kill someone, and/or themselves.

Drinking and driving sucks. Thats why i think we should have a way to make people stop drinking. Cyanide in beer? Should work.

A lot of countries have much stricter laws against DUIs...your first offense could be your last.

The Orioles are just a culture of self destruction, cheating, lying and failure. 8 straight losing seasons wouldn't be tolerated in a major league city.
