I sat there and watched it happen...He took the lineup card and went to each roster spot and wrote a name down.......I mean, the shear insanity of it.....it was perfect......perfectly stupid........he put Millar's name down.......the horror.......the horror.

Olerud is 37 years old, you can't expect him to play everyday. This is probably what's going to happen the rest of the year, two days in, one day out. It's a perfect strategy.

I know, but there is another option on the bench.

Petagine? The career minor leaguer?

This team is loaded offensively, I'm sure that Millar won't hurt them out their in the field, because face it he's having a good year with the glove. I'd rather have Olerud at 100% every two days, then Olerud at 80% and declining each day he's out there.

I'm in absolute agreement about resting Olerud. If we are going on previous performance, then yes Millar has a better resume than Petagine. But Roberto is playing better the last two weeks. Ride the horse that runs fastest. And yes, I know we are playing the Royals so it's probably a moot point.

Don't respond, Kevin just put my foot in my mouth.

You make a pretty good point about Petagine. He has hit better overall, but I'd rather see Millar than a career journeyman.

I think Petagine could be a good option, maybe at Yankee Stadium, but his HR's he was mashing in McCoy Stadium would just be long fly balls in Fenway.

True, the only one he hit this year was just beyond Pesky's Pole.

I reallt think that Millar still has a chance to get hot, if he gets into a grove like he was last year post all-star break, and most of 2003, he should still see lots of action at 1b

No, he shouldnt. He should only play every 3rd day when Olerud isn't playing. Actually, I would make sense to try to trade Petagine. Youkilis should be up here, the Red Sox don't need two left-handed 1st basemen.

If Millar gets hot he is as good of is a above average firstbasemen, as good as olrude at this point in his career, and im not saying he is going to, but if he does, he deserves to play

That word "if" cost a lot of GM's their jobs. Millar should have gotten hot by September, he didn't, and doesn't deserve to play every day.

On Millar's HR:

YoukOfTheNation: Was I just hearing things on the radio, or did Kevin Millar hit an actual home run?

zax2834: no, you heard right.

YoukOfTheNation: wow

YoukOfTheNation: Freaky

zax2834: lol i was like wait, what did don just say

zax2834: HES ON THE ROIDS

YoukOfTheNation: well, we know what must have happened

YoukOfTheNation: that pitcher must have cut in front of him in line at KFC one day

YoukOfTheNation: and gotten the last bucket of popcorn chicken

zax2834: you may be right, my friend.

Haha, I had pretty much the same reaction. I was in awe... how could MILLAR. The FATASS, hit a homer. The stupid, fat, slow, terrible baseball player hit a homer. I am still shocked.
