It's getting close and we've all been watching or reading about our favorite players in the minors. So who gets called up ? Factor that in with who gets put on the Post Season eligable roster.

yup, he' definately on my list. Any others ? I bet Stern will get over that injury in the first few days of September. I also will be interested to see what they do with Miller. I believe that as long as they put him on the post season list while on DL, they gain flexibility on the 40 man and post season rosters.

Considering that Jon Lester isn't on the 40 man roster, the Red Sox would have to make a move to bring him up in September (because it has to be someone on your 40 man roster to call them up)

That being said, I expect the following guys to be called up in September:

Manny Delcarmen

Craig Hansen (if not sooner)

Adam Stern (activated from DL after September 1)

Kevin Youkilis

Wade Miller (activated from DL after September 1)

Here's the 40-man roster: http://boston.redsox.mlb.com/NASApp/mlb/team/roster_40man.jsp?c_id=bos

Youklis will for sure be up in semptember. They have to give the guy the call up seeing as how they've been jumping him back and forth from AAA to the Big Leagues.

cool Mikeyboy it is, I was getting mad at that during game threads here on Talksox some people were actually calling him Remy or Remdawg, argh those nicknames have already been given to respectable man dont insult Jerry Remy

I think Hansen will be on the roster. Youkilis, Stern, Belhorn might come back for a little bit. Delcarmen, Dinardo, do we still have Malaska? And don't be surprised if Pedroia and or Ramirez make brief stints.

to everyone who has NESN, tonight at 7 will be a Portland Sea Dogs game with Jon Lester up on the mound :)

They play the Trenton Thunder, the Yankees AA squad. It'll be nice to see how he matches up with Eric Duncan, one of the Yankees best position prospects. Too bad I won't get to see it down here in FL. How about a game thread?

I'll help if a can also.

Hansen is getting the call up September 1 and therefore will not be eligible for post season. I think this guy deserves the gamble of coming up before then.

Stern is getting called back up off the DL.

I don't care what they do with Wade Miller for that matter. I saw the guy having sex in an alley last night outside a bar with a 17 year old while Foulke had to wait for him and we talked to him. He was like "Wade Miller. What a joke." Heh.

Wade Miller becomes a pawn for the post season. If they have Miller on the post season roster and he's on the DL, and stays on DL, then the Sox can take anyone that is on the forty man roster and substitute him for Miller. Which would mean that the Sox can look at the kids ( including Hansen ) and then use one for the play-offs.

Same thing goes for Mantei. Really, the Sox have a bit of a free pass when it comes to Hansen. He'll come up on Sept. 1, and then they'll try him out. If he's effective, expect him on the roster. If not, he won't be. It's the same loophole that allowed K-Rod to be used in 2002 after being called up on Sept. 15.

Exactly.

I forgot about the DL loophole, which certainly comes into play. Hansen pitched 1.1 innings last night. In 10 innings, 9K's and still no ER's.
