lol...

Can you imagine if that ever happened here? I'm sure Tony G was glad to get out of there. To be honest I think it would be just as hard to lose 17 in a row as it is to win 17 in a row.

The only losing streak I can compare this to is when The Orioles opened the season back in late 80's or early 90's? Losing their first 20+ games without a victory.

That franchise is a disgrace. Revenue sharing has actually been making a difference in the last couple years. Many of the "small market" teams have been slowly improving, but the Royals have been moving in the opposite direction. It's almost as if they WANT to lose...they're like the LA Clippers.

I think that Major Leagues - in any sport - should have a system where owners that have demonstrated a clear lack of interest in being competitive can be bought out by the league without their consent, as long as they get fair market value for the franchise (perhaps set by an independent auditor). Teams like the Clippers, the Bengals, the Royals, the Devil Rays, etc are BAD for their respective sports.

The record is 26 by the Louisville Colonels.

The Royals real problem is that season when they won too many games in 2003. They got that taste of winning in their mouth, and had to build for success. They lost sight of what they were, a small market team. They added players that weren't good fits (Juan Gonzalez, Scott Sullivan) instead of building within.

They'll be OK in the future. Billy Butler is a premirer prospect at 1B. They need to get Alex Gordon signed, he'll be really good at 3rd base. Chris Lubasnki is a pretty good OF prospect. The problem with the Royals is that they lack starters in their system. They have Denny Batistia, and Zack Grienke but that's it. They need to address that in the forecoming drafts.

I know, but just losing 23 in a row is weak, it's gotta break the alltime record.

They've had tons of starting pitching prospects. They've blown out half of the arms. KC is one of the only teams that doesn't tightly watch the minor league pitchers' innings and pitch counts, and predictably they haven't developed really any productive starters, outside of Greinke who looks gassed this year. Sad thing is, you might have to throw him onto the scrapheap as well, which is sad because he was looking like the next Sabes.

Going back to 2003 and backwards to 1999, here are the pitchers that have appeared in their top 10 prospects according to Baseball America:

Zack Greinke

Jeremy Hill

Jimmy Gobble

Colt Griffin

Mike McDougal

Miguel Ascencio

Kyle Snyder

Brad Voyles

Chris George

Jeff Austin

Mike Stodolka

Dan Reichert

Orber Moreno

Chad Durbin

Junior Guerrero

Brian Sanches

That's one potential impact starter in Greinke (who knows what his future holds), and one pretty good bullpen arm in McDougal.

That kinda streak, while not as hard as winning 18 games in a row (that would be crazy), has luck involved. Of course, ability factors mainly into sucking in general. But to lose that many games, consecutively, it would suggest that a team couldn't catch a break.

Yeah, there was that game where they had the final out, a can of corn to the outfield, that Ambres dropped. Cleveland scored like 12 runs that inning and won. I think that was loss number 7 or so.

Ha, one of the hottest teams in baseball right now, and they're being given a fight by one of the most pathetic. Odd, but that's baseball.

It's sad because it's the twentieth anniversary of when the Royals won the WS, against the Cardinals (and the infamous call at 1st). But it seems like nobody's in the mood to reminisce because they're just awful this year.
