Let me preface this by saying this is pure conjecture, but just wanted to know other opinions on this topic.

Given how infamously impatient and impulsive Steinbrenner is, any chance the ultimate person who takes responsibility for this season where their payroll > 200 mil., Cashman gets what he knew was coming eventually and gets broken off by the boss? I mean this is the same guy to ran out Bob Watson after Watson couldn't put up with Steinbrenner's BS anymore. No way does Torre get let go, not after signing that huge extension. And while I'm not a Torre apologist, its not like he was the one who signed/traded for a team with all these players on the wrong side of 30.

I have nothing personal against Cashman, (other than being in the fortunate position of being a rich kid in the candy store year after year and operating with a close to an infinite budget) but the older players he brought in look like a shadow of themselves and the younger players brought in (with the exception of A-Rod) have been stealing money from the yankees. C'mon, did he even evalute these guys before bringing them in and signing them or did he just look at highlight clips from their less than stellar careers?

I'm not sure, but rumors I have heard say that since this is the last year in Cash's contract he will just walk away. It's a hard job and I wouldn't blame him for walking away, but he has been the GM for 8 years, I believe that is the longest tenure of any Yankee GM, and I don't know how much I would trust switching gears .

Cashman will walk from the Yankees at the end of November. He will not be pushed.

And any negative commentary from Boston about the Yankees payroll only sounds like Warren Buffet complaing how much money Bill Gates has.

Re: Yankee payroll, that was taken out of context. While it is obvious the Yankees spend the most, I acknowledge that Boston isn't exactly operating on a budget like Tampa Bay. However, as a baseball fan, it seems disheartening to see a championship/pass to the playoffs can be had by purchasing all the talent available when trades do not bring in the rest. That being said, at five years and counting, it brings immense pleasure to see all that money being misspent.

While ordinarily I'm against a salary cap in sports, parity does have its advantages. Never have I looked forward to an NHL season like I do this one. And while I prefer soft caps like in the NBA over what they have in the NFL, you can't argue with the success New England has had building a dynasty.

Why would she say that, especially since it's not like the Red Sox are dropping Epstein for him? No way.

Not all moves are Cashman's fault. Was he the one how axed the (albeit, possibility) of Vlad being a Yankee? No. Was he the one who signed Womack? No. Title of Yankees GM is a bit deceptive. There's Tampa faction and Steinbrenner, who has the final say.

Cashman will likely be fired by Steinbrenner if the Yankees don't make the playoffs. Someone will have to be the fall guy.

Hes a Free Agent, he wouldnt have to be fired.

Honestly, these rumors have been going around forever, the one thats been flying around is him going to Washington. I honestly think hes going to be back. Since he was a kid hes had something to do with the Yankee organization, he was an intern in the late 80's, hes been here forever. He is the voice of reason in the organization. The only way Torre gets fired is if he isnt back, because if he is he'll talk Steinbrenner out of it. nobody can talk George out of something better than Cash.

Now i certainly hope he doesnt go, I know that all of you guys dont give him any credit because of the budget, but he truly is a remarkable GM. He has always made good deals at good time (David Justice, Jose Vizcaino, and the A-Rod deal was fantastic, he got it done so quickly, and it was a pretty complex deal with all the negotiating concerning the money and the deferring of the money, and how much the Rangers would pay). And of coarse he has made bad trades, but who hasnt. If you look at his recent bad trades they were Javy Vasquez and Jeff Weaver (im not gonna throw RJ in there yet), and nobody could have predicted that they would be that bad, but if you remember the trades, he was praised when they happened. For god's sake he traded Ted Lilly, who at the time was a long reliever, for someone who was projected to be an ace/borderline Hall of Famer.

His wife said that just to stir s*** up, he would never say that and im SURE that he has no desire to be in the Boston organization.

To sum it all up, I would be very surprised if Brian Cashman isnt the Yankee GM next year. Dont get me wrong, im not sayin that George wont go on a rampage and just fire people, but I would be shocked.

BTW smb998, He isnt the longest tenured GM of all time, im pretty sure that there were others, off the top of my head Ed Barrow. But he might be the longest tenured GM under Steinbrenner.

Oh, ok. That must have been what I heard. Either that or Kay doesn't know what he is talking about...does he ever? :dunno:

How many managers and GM's have the other AL East teams had compared with the Yankees of late.

Torre's been there 10 years and Cashman's been there at least 6, I think.

Took the RedSox a while to find Epstein, he should be there a good long while.

From everything people are saying it looks like Ca$hman will walk at the end of the year, and I don't blame him. He is supposed to be the GM of this team, but everyone knows George is really running things. I wouldn't be surprised at all if he tells George to eat s***, and he leaves.

I think teams looking for a GM may be a little skeptical about hiring the Ca$hman because they may not be sure who was really pulling the strings on some of the worse moves the organization has made. I'm sure teams looking at his signings last offseason (namely wright, and pavano) will be a bit concerned. I really could care less what Ca$hman does.
