thats right one game at a time, going into tomorrow's game with a 5 game lead over the yankees, thanks

If you win at an .870 clip the rest of the way, you'll win the East without a problem. Just a hunch, but you guys will cool off.

well true undoubtedly but always fun to bask in the glow of your respected teams doing well---which im sure you were with the yanks having a 10 game winning streak, and doing very well in july and at one point taking the lead in the AL East for a day

LOL that may be true, but logic stands you will as well. Short of RJ and KB waking up 10 yrs younger...you guys are screwed. Your offense + Mariano will keep you in more games than you would otherwise lose outright, but right about now, the smart move is to stockpile the farm with realistic future major leagueres (aka Jeter/B. Williams, etc.) and unload dead weight.

You guys are really being a little too cocky for your own good. Don't forget the Yanks and Sox have a few more head to head games, and I do believe the Yanks are winning the season series thus far.

are they? if so, its by like 1 game. We're winining the season series vs KC/TB, I know that for sure.

we've outscored you thats for sure, 34-2 in 2 games

some of your friends on the YES Boards don't agree with you, heres what they have to say

The Sox are unstoppable right now. If they can score 9 runs off Buerhle and the White Sox, they just are on another planet right now.

Meanwhile the Yanks will be two back of the WC lead in the loss column if the Angels lose tonight..

Now that's funny ( coming from a Yankee's fan ). But on the other hand, you should know from PAST experience about being cocky.Hey, you have squat for starting pitching, crap for middle relief, shacky defense, and no minor leaguers to bring up. Gee, I'm really terrified by the choke artist yankees putting together a late season charge. You guys are toast, pass the butter.

Where exactly was I being cocky? You don't know me. Just because I am a Yankees fan does not mean I say at the beignning of every season, "The real season begins in October." or "It's not a success unless the Yanks win it all.", because I don't say that. I am realistic. I am not saying anything about what I think the Yankees will do in the rest of the regular season or the post-season. I just think some of you are certain that the sox will stay as hott as they are now and clinch the AL East in a couple weeks without a problem. It's not over at all. I mean, imagine me saying that the Yanks were back in full force when they won 10 straight games and then 15/17. A lot can go wrong real fast, that's all I'm saying.

The Yanks aren't a perfect team by any stretch of the imagination, but all the faults you listed that the Yanks have could go just as easily against the Sox as well. Your ace is now trying to be like Mo, you had one of the worst BP ERAs for a while there, your defense lost your team a game against the Twins a couple nights ago, and jeeze I thought the Yanks didn't have any minor leaguers to bring up either....but have you been paying attention to Robinson Cano lately? ;) Or what Wang did when he was pitching?

And to whoever quoted a YES poster...yah, that was a YES poster. That board contains some of the worse excuses for Yankees fans I have ever seen. :thumbdown

yes, i watch most of the yankees games, and he has had like 7 SO in 10 games.

as for the minor leaguers ever hear of jon papelbon, manny delcarmen, anibal sanchez, jon lester, kevin youkilis, dustin pedroia, hanley ramirez, crag hansen........need I go on.

we have plenty of very good prospects.

Yankees really can't cool off, being that they have not been hot at all, lol. Their September schedule looks very favorable, and it'll be a tight finish. I honestly think they make the playoffs, making up a lot of ground next month.

Easier said than done to unload dead weight, but we lose about $30 million in contracts with Bernie and Brown after this year, which provides some flexibility. The problem will be the market has slim pickings, and it takes time to build a farm system. I think the Yankees are making some sort of an effort not to trade off these parts, as evidenced by their quiet deadline.

You have to figure Johnson is going to have a few dominant starts sprinkled in down the stretch, and all sources say that Wright has looked electric in his minor league starts. Wang threw off the mound today, and it seems more and more likely he'll be back. Chacon and Small have been Godsends. And Mussina has been the rock. Couple all that stuff with the Yankee offense, and a light schedule down the stretch and I think we're playing more than 2 games in October.

Yes and the Yanks have Hughes, Cox, Cabrera....Nomo

In all honestly, I don't pay attention as much as I should to the farm system, so I can't really talk about it. All I know is that Cash is trying to hang on to the guys down there until they can work their way up. Last time the Yanks brought up a couple guys from the farm (Jeter, Rivera, Posada, Bernie) they were the backbone of a dynasty. So we'll see I guess. :dunno:

Here is what the Yanks could get rid of:

Kevin Brown $15,714,286

Bernie Williams $12,357,143

Al Leiter $7,241,931

Tom Gordon $3,750,000

Felix Rodriguez $3,150,000

Alan Embree $3,000,000

Tino Martinez (Team Option) $2,750,000

Ruben Sierra $1,500,000

John Flaherty $800,000

Rey Sanchez $600,000

Total: $50,863,360

Flaherty will be back as long as Johnson is, and Sierra will probably be back as well. As for the rest of them, they will probably be gone. MAYBE Gordon can stay, if he doesn't choke in Sept again.

I'm not worried about Johnson. He has a better ERA against over .500 teams than he does against under .500 teams, and I'm not worried about seeing the Royals in the play-offs any time soon

I would be confident, believe it or not, going down the stretch with Johnson, Moose, Wright, Chacon, and Small as starters. I HIGHLY doubt Wang will be back, but if he does come back, that would obviously give the Yanks a strong 1-2-3 punch with RJ, Moose, and Wang, making short series easier to win.

cabrera? whose cabrera? that wouldn't be melky would it?

Yes, it would. He was rushed too soon. Judging him on his performance, or lack there of, in CF isn't fair. He will be much better in 2 or so years.

Good post, good info. I agree, I'd be quite content with that rotation as well. Unfortuantely, it looks like they'll be keeping Leiter in the rotation and switch Small to the bullpen. I think Small will be more adept at pitching out of the bullpen, and could be this year's Sturtze. In any case, Al isn't going to be pitching in a playoff game.

Excuse me, what have you been watching ? Like the Red Sox haven't had any injuries ? Schilling, Wells, Foulke, Nixon, etc. Farm system to bring up, not brought up. Wang is pitching how well on DL ? Cano, he's going to carry the team ? Oh, BTW how's on center fielder. You are the one that strongly implied that it's not over because we have a few games left with the Yanks. Personally, I think that's great, it'll give a chance to rest some of our starters.

by the time that last series comes at fenway, we will already be 3+ games up IMO, so that series will be irrelevant for us

I'll quote you on that.
