I would like to see Youkilis and Petagine splitting time at 1B with Olerud coming in as a D replacement, tell Millar to pack his bags. Is anyone else tired of not seeing Kevin Youkilis play? If this guy is our starting 3B next year let him frigin play. What a waste he is sitting on the bench every day.

The sense in it is that he has 300 something AB's and is producing about as good as a backup utility infielder and has hit in the #5 spot most of the year with On base machines ahead of him and has amassed a whopping 40 RBI. I understand he is valuable in the clubhouse, but in a perfect world Kevin Millar would not be the starting 1B on this club. He plays 1B and hits in the giant part of the order for an offensive juggernaut which is the boston redsox and has produced NOTHING compared to other big league first baseman.

I saw this on another site and thought that it was funny, well, in a sad way.

"Kevin Millar couldn't hit Oprah in the azz with an oversized tennis racket and he

runs like Orson Wells...I would send Millar to a Mexican league club for a case of Cabo Wabo Tequilla."

What happens to Petagine when Trot comes back ?

I imagine they will give Nixon a rehab stint, which will take us into September. After that, Im guessing that Youkilis gets the bump and Petagine stays with the club.

Well I'm just wondering with all the anticapated returns : Nixon, Olerud, Miller, Foulke, and Paplebon call-up and the fact that by Sept. 1st play-off rosters must be set. That's a lot of shuffling and adjustments ( let alone any other call ups ).

they arent going to bump Youkilis past September because anyways when Sept 1 comes around the rosters are able to expand--Yes Nixon will go on a rehab but it will be a limited one at best and he'll be expected back to the Sox before the end of August

look at Mark Bellhorn, it was highly speculated that he wouldnt make the playoffs roster as starter, rather being Pokey Reese--and he actually stepped up and had the highlight of his career, I could only hope Millar does the same before he turns off the light of his Red Sox career

Amen to that ! Because, ececpt for an injury, Millar will be on the play-off roster. I think the Sox will be inclined to go with Olerurd, becuase of defensive ability and play-off experience.

Kevin Millar has proven beyond a reasonable doubt that he can't hit in the playoffs.

I say DFA Millar when Olerud comes back. Or just DFA him anyway and play Youkilis more. Or put him on waivers, and when another team claims him just let him go.

I understand that he has just 6 weeks left on his contract (barring a playoff run), but in the next 6 weeks every game is important, we need to win as many as possible. Kevin Millar does not help the Red Sox win games. PERIOD.

Can't argue with the logic, in fact I think most of the board would agree, except I think the loyalty thing will be a better factor.

As long as Petagine shows he can hit and does so with power...Millar may actually see a bump. Bellhorn would be back already if it weren't for Graffanino playing so well. Now Bellhorn can forget it cause he can't get back in the lineup. If Petagine keeps hitting well with some HR authority...Millar may be stuck backing up the outfield and 1st base. I say let Petagine hit regularly and see how he does with Olerud being the defensive replacement and Millar being a backup utility type player and club house guy.

That's fine for the next week to 10 days, but after that the decisions must be made.

And thats what I'm saying. In those 7-10 days if Petagine shows he can hit and does well....then this shouldn't be much of a decision. If Petagine outperforms Millar it all batting categories and Tito sticks with Millar....I'm going to be pissed.

Okay, we're on the same page.
