I'm sorry dear, StottleFIRED will be gone next year...maybe, maybe. Well he was supposed to LAST offseason, but no, no, it didn't happen.

Comerica Park is a pitcher's park, so maybe that factors into that?

Well then again, I'm not sorry. Pavano and Wright signed big contracts under the last season assumption that NL pitchers with good seasons could make the adjustments to the AL, help this team, and so far it's been a big disappointment seeing as the only "young" pitcher that amounted to anything this year was C-M Wang - which came out of the farm system. So far you and Wright have parked yourselves onto the bandwagon, and if you want to WRIGHT it, get healthy and start pitching.

I think some fans , and players I guess, have forgotten the years when this franchise has STRUGGLED - is that a foreign word now?

Edit: "Someone on the Tigers"...no direct quote? And what is he doing telling "someone on the Tigers" while he's on the DL?? WHAT?!

how can you say that..Stottylmeyer has been a great pitching coach since '96...dont throw all the blame for the last 2 years on Mel, blame the pitchers. How come guys like Clemens, Pettitte, Wells, Cone, etc all rave about Mel. Its the guys who do poorly that complain.

Those guys were all awesome pitchers before they got to the Yankees.

No kidding...yeah, if it's a mechanical problem, if it's a mechanical problem, not expecting Stottlemyre to correct it.

Wells said something along the lines that Stottlemyre was the best pitching coach he ever had? *huffs*

But then you ask all the guys that got shipped out of NY - and I think it speaks for itself that the situation isn't working.

Not to mention he evaluated Wang's pitching one day, and everything was "fine", and then the next Wang's shoulder is discovered to be inflammed and he's on the DL. So, the only plausible scenario in which Stottlemyre isn't at fault here would be Wang hiding his discomfort; otherwise, it's his responsibility to make sure his pitchers are takenc are of.

That's all you need to be one of Steinbrenner's du jours. ;)

The guy once landed Alyssa Milano [Pavano - what a tongue-twister that would've been ], not the first time he's gotten lucky, so to speak.

When do reporters give sources, when typically that player is asking to remain anonymous? And do the Yankees disallow phone rights while a player is DL'ed?

Vic Darensbourg, Ivan Rodriguez, and Nate Robertson are all former teammates of Pavano.

Posted

No, I'm not surprised that the player requested anonymity. No one wants be named these days. I was joking about the phone rights part, but if he's calling his buddies up on the team phone during the game (not likely, if you didn't detect the sarcasm), then there'd be a problem.

I have nothing against being friends with someone on another team, but IMO, and perhaps in the minds of other Yankee fans, he crossed the line and was unprofessional in talking about his team's situation. Frankly Pavano hasn't given enough this year to be happy or unhappy about "his" situation. RJ has griped. When he pitches well, I'll let it slide; when he doesn't, then he should shut up. As far as griping rights go, if the player pulls his weight and things aren't working, then he might have a legitimate case.

I just don't see a point in this whole thing. What's done is done; he signed the contract, at his own discretion until some other breaking news story tells me he didn't.

So anyways, I thought I'd mention this, in case Carl Pavano wants to make some friends with "True Yankees". Actually most of the article is about past Yankees, future Yankees, or somewhere in between.

Some guys are meant to be Yankees and some are not

Pedro? WHAT?! Well maybe Posada might actually get along with him better than say, RJ. And I don't want to get started on another round of debating, so I'll just say that the two have been civil about their lack of pitcher-catcher chemistry; RJ seems to be doing fine with Flaherty, and Posada well, this guy doesn't get called out in the NY media the way other "True Yankees" get called out (Jeter, Williams, Rodriguez - he's on the Yankee payroll, he's a Yankee). So just win and hopefully nobody will notice...

He's not poor, soxie. Forty million, a guy is not poor. ;) I once referred to KB as "poor thing", but then stopped, thought, and realized there were better words to describe what he has meant to this team...

Update on Pavano's condition (rehab start): Pavano hurls six strong, Yanks wait & see

CLEVELAND - Carl Pavano threw 77 pitches last night for Class A Tampa, in what the Yankees hope is the final step of the righthander's rehab from shoulder tendinitis.

Pavano allowed three runs and six hits against Vero Beach, and could be activated in time to start Tuesday against the White Sox at the Stadium.

Pavano (4-6, 4.77 ERA) hasn't pitched since June 27. Joe Torre said he was looking forward to hearing the results of Pavano's outing, but was more interested in how the 29-year-old felt today.

Good thing there's word on Wright, too; I thought he simply vaporized or something. :o

Aaron Sele...come on down! You're the latest DFA'd guy to [possibly] sign with the Yankees.

One last thing about Pavano; look, given that this team has had its shares of prima donnas, I never had anything against Pavano in the first place. So if he helps his team into the postseason, I will root for him even more.

...I hope you're kidding. You're saying Clemens, Wells, Cone, Pettitte were bad with the Yankees?

Sorry, I have to assume that's sarcasm. Something like that can't be taken seriously...unless you were serious. God I suck.

Um, dude, he's saying they were good before they got there (Pettitte excluded). Nothing was ever insinuated that they were bad, just that Stottlemyre should get no credit for them pitching well.

Pavano and Wright are being pushed back. Again. WHY DO THEY GET OUR HOPES UP?!?! Grr. <_ i hope the wanger will be ok. src="//d1mqtyoopj0gsc.cloudfront.net/emoticons/default_sad.png" alt=":(">

Aaron Small, team hero you are. 3-0, we love ya, we love ya, we love ya! Shawn Chacon is doing ok, too. Now, if Al "Red Sox Killer" Leiter could only, only find the strikezone...

Pavano should be ready for the White Sox, Monday or Tuesday.

The only reason he regrets it is because he's not doing very well this season. Im just glad the Sox didn't sign him what a waste of money that would have been.

...Behind that Florida defense, no less.

Well he was a hot piece of ass when he was on the mound, but definitely enjoyed it less when he sucked. <_>

More bad news (?):

Pavano to see specialist

TORONTO - Carl Pavano is headed for Birmingham, not Trenton, and the Yankees have serious doubts about whether they will see the righthander again this season.

GM Brian Cashman said it's possible there is a condition that their tests haven't detected and admitted that exploratory surgery may be the next step for Pavano. That would end his season.

"I'd say that's a major concern," Cashman said of Pavano being done for the season. "We just don't know right now."

What tests haven't they ran? Surgery?! Yikes. :o

I hope hes out the rest of the year. Give him a clean slate in the spring. Quite frankly with the pitching surplus we have right now a season ending injury could lift the burden. Especially if its somebody who hasnt done very well, such as Kevin Brown who will likely be out the rest of the year.

You know whats weird, Pavano and Wright both got hurt for the Yankees on my Dynasty mode for MVP baseball '05

I've been able to set my watch to the Yankee pitcher's injuries this season. Keeps perfect time. Only had one problem with it so far, sometimes I'll set it forward 3 minutes, and it will end up losing 4.

KB will be out of the Yankees for the rest of his career. Fifty some days, fifty some days.

The whole team needs a clean slate. <_>

I don't follow. Yes there's a surplus, a surplus of crap. If he's not back, if Wright is not back, the 2004 offseason was a bust, more so than it is already.

i know it sounds odd, but look at it this way. You only need 4 starters in the postseason, if we get there they would be Randy, Moose, and hopefully Wang/Wright/Pavano/Brown can fill out the last 2 spots. u gotta figure at least two of them are going to be back. If only one comes back, with the performance i wouldnt be too opposed to having Chacon out there. Aaron Small has somewhat ressurected his career and could be a valueable asset to the bullpen down the stretch, if we ever get enough healthy starters to knock him otu of the rotation. But the reason I said i hope someone is out for the year is that because if you add any of the injured starters to the active roster, someone has to go. Only 2 of the active pitchers have options and could be sent down without risk of losing them to waivers, Wayne Franklin and Scott Proctor. So say Wang is activated, it would likely be Franklin that is sent down (Embree and Leiter are sufficient options out of the pen from the left side). Now if someone else comes back, it would be Proctor over Small that gets sent down. Now I dont know about you, but I like Proctor very much and I think that he can provide some depth, if needed, in the postseason. I would rather have him in the playoffs than an injured Pavano or Brown. The only guy that its injured right now that I would take over him is Wright. Only because he has a power arm and could really give us a very long bullpen.
