BOSTON (Ticker) -- In the opener of a three-game series between the Minnesota Twins and the Boston Red Sox , one team lost a star outfielder and the other threatened to trade one.

The teams may have altered lineups when they resume the weekend series Saturday at Fenway Park.

While rumors swirled around Boston left fielder Manny Ramirez and a proposed trade to the New York Mets , Minnesota saw center fielder Torii Hunter suffer a sprained tendon in his left ankle that will keep him out up to six weeks.

Behind 7 1/3 effective innings by Bronson Arroyo and John Olerud 's grand slam, the Red Sox posted an 8-5 win in Friday's series opener. It was Boston's third straight win and Minnesota's sixth loss in eight games.

The Twins turn to Kyle Lohse (7-9, 4.45 ERA) on Saturday. Lohse has lost his last three decisions, yielding 21 hits in 11 2/3 innings over his last two starts.

The 26-year-old righthander is 0-2 with a 6.75 ERA in four career starts against Boston.

Lohse will be opposed by David Wells (8-5, 4.57), who has dominated the Twins in his career. In 36 games and 23 starts against Minnesota, Wells is 18-6 with a 2.26 ERA.

The 42-year-old lefthander gave up three runs in 6 1/3 innings in Monday's 4-3 loss to Tampa Bay, missing out on a chance to win his third straight.

Supposedly I have now heard NESN and WEEI say this. He was originally in and now is not. Bold move if true, good job Francona. Okay and now MLB.com says this, so I think it's true.

Some AL scores from today:

White Sox 9 v. Baltimore 6 -- Final

yankees 8 v. Angels 7 -- Final

Texas 3 v. Toronto 2 -- 8th inning

Oakland 9 v. Detroit 5 -- Final, Jay Payton also had a GS

According to EEI, there is no trade to announce, but Manny is not in the lineup. He doesn't need a day off, and he doesn't have the flu.... you put together what you want to happen.

maybe manny was traded in another deal that no one has heard of???????

Doubt it. Anything that happens will be known within minutes I would think. Especially with a deal of this magnitude...
