Could the White Sox be using the prospects they would have reportedly sent to Florida for Burnett in a different deal? This from ESPN.com's Jayson Stark: "There were indications Tuesday that (the White Sox) have been working on a potential whopper of a deal with Tampa Bay that could bring them both Danys Baez and Aubrey Huff. And to get them, the White Sox would have to give up at least some of the pitchers they've been speaking to Florida about -- particularly relievers Damaso Marte, Cliff Politte and/or Neal Cotts -- plus other prospects."

that would seem like a better deal than the burnett one, their SP is pretty set, but their bullpen (as the case with many other teams) could use some help and aubrey huff never hurts anyone's team, I would do this trade if I was the ChiSox, plus they wouldn't have to give up McCarthy.

that would leave us in the running for burnett!

with Clement unfortuantely going down, so far Im thinking it could be best for Clement to take rest of season off, tests might be negative but a 100 mph line drive to your head could very much mes with presence and mechanics. Theo probably got no sleep last nite worrying about his all star pitcher and outfielder hurt in same inning, at same time trying to ham out deals that might push sox to acquiring aj burnett

Theo Epstein's job got a lot harder on Tuesday night. With the injuries to Matt Clement and Trot Nixon, he now must determine 1) How much time each of the players will miss, and 2) If either is going to be out for an extended period, do the Sox need to up their ante for starting pitcher A.J. Burnett or even try to acquire an outfielder. Stay tuned. ... will Theo Epstein make another blockbuster before Sunday's deadline? "It's possible," Epstein told the Herald's Gerry Callahan earlier this week. "We're going to do what it takes to get this team into the postseason. Just like we did last year."

I think we need to make 1 final push for AJ...

I highly doubt Clement will rest for the rest of the season, in the middle of a pennant/playoff race to boot, I was just thinkin at what a mental challenge it would be for matt to step out on the mound again, even if he is OK physically...when he does it I will have gained a whole lot of respect for him. He's a tough competitor and he will do it sooner rather than later.

How can you say the best thing to do is to take the season off? He may be fine. Why would you want somoene who is perfectly fine taking the season off? Yes, I agree that if he is seriously injured or doesn't feel comfortable then he should sit the season out. However, if he is healthy he should come back, because he's the ace of this staff. Say what you want about Wells, or Schilling(who hasn't even started a game this year) Hammer is our Ace, and we need him back.

I doubt Theo spent one second thinking about who was going to take clements place in the rotation. If he's a human being then he was thinking about the health of Matt Clement, and spent the night hoping/praying that he would recover. Baseball isn't everything guys, it's a lot, but it isn't everything.

BTW in his career Wade Miller is 20-6 in the 2nd half. So when Schilling comes back to the rotation we may not need another starter ... even if Hammer isn't able to pitch.

ok i said Theo probably got no sleep last nite worrying about his all star pitcher and outfielder hurt in same inning but yet from you i f***in said he was 100% worrying about his rotation. Also I was just merely suggesting it could be an option, because I am just as anybody worried the f*** about his sake and health. Sox do not know fully well if he is perfectly fine, there is still evaluations and such to go through. Im not acting as if theo needs to get out there and make a push for starting pitcher he should get and sideline matt. did i ever say matt clement was not our ace, no i never did, in all my posts before I have praised clement for pulling the team together for the first half. Yes Wade will be dominant with having great defense behind him and not throwing over 60 pitches thru the first 3 innings of each game.... and by the way Schilling(who hasn't even started a game this year), um yea actually he started 3 games in april

just got an IM from a yankee fan

I hope Clement misses at least one start, just to get himself together and prepared. I remember when Moose got hit a few years ago, he would flinch after every pitch...sometimes he would actually hit the deck!! He said that there was some fear in him that a line drive was going to come right back at him, and who could blame him? He was hit under his eye and it required stiches...it was awful. He may be a little nervous out there, but I am sure he will come through for you!!

cant imagine matt being scared

Ok man I think we both need to chill out. Clearly we're both worried about whats more important, Hammers health. And yeah you're right about Schilling ... my bad. I never said that you doubted Hammer being our ace. I quoted you so I could make my first point. Hammer being our ace was directed at those people who doubt him, not you.

Hammer should actually be less scared now, because the chances of the same pitcher getting hit twice in one seacon in the head are so slim that they're not even worth discussing. I understand that he will be scared though because that is human nature. It just depends how long it takes him to get over it.

yea sorry dude, a truce is in order, last nights win which was the most inspiring victory of the 2005 season had got my mind all jumbled with thoughts of losing all-star clement as well as Trot Nixon in same inning, no doubt Gabe Kapler will be called up earlier than expected
