I'm talking about desiganted for assignment. Yankeesuck I know that but what is the point to it. Why don't you just not do that and trade the player in more then 10 days.

To open up a roster spot for someone who is more deserving than the person who will be traded. Like in Embree's case any other reliever was more deserving of a spot so they DFA'd Embree to open one up.
