They don't have to release somebody to remove somebody from the 40 man roster. They can remove somebody from the 40 man roster by designating him for assignment. They can send Halama down or someone else who doesnt have a big league contract, and remove him from the 40 man by designating him for assignment, then he'd go through waivers, and presuming nobody picks him up, they send him to pawtucket. It doesnt always mean you are releasing them.

at some point ill say yes.....right now we need a 2B and we are having trouble deciding between Pedroia and Ramirez.....I can't say which I would rather see....both have good talent but I think Hanley would bring maybe a little more spark...while Pedroia wouldn't make as many mistakes....i dont know its a tough call
