I just heard on ESPN radio that Wells was suspended 6 games. He probably appeal and, therefore, will be able to pitch tonight. (What was he suspended for anyway?)

David Wells of the Boston Red Sox has been suspended for six games and fined an undisclosed amount for his inappropriate conduct, including making contact with Umpires Chris Guccione and Angel Hernandez, during the Toronto-Boston game on July 2, 2005 at Fenway Park.

Ridculous. Why don't they suspend that 2nd base umpire for being a moron and throwing wells out when wells had nothing to do with him. Suspend that home plate umpire for shity calling too.

Sox Fan in Tex, crazy things happen when Tim Redding has to start a game in a series of this magnitude lol. But there is no reason to think that Wells won't appeal. Every player appeals when they get suspended so he might as well just do it now, so he can pitch tonight. Also, we all know how much Wells loves to pitch against the Yankees, so I would certainly think that he would appeal so he can pitch this game.

He didn't and pitched great, this suspension should and probably will be reduced. The umpire claimed that he (Wells) "made physical contact with him" I watched that game there is no way in hell that he was touched, maybe by the bill of the cap. If that ump is whining about a bill cap he needs to be fired.

The umpire should be fired regardless -- well, not fired, but punished. He had no right to throw Wells out of the game. If the umpire that Wells had been arguing didn't think Wells had crossed the line, who's the second base umpire to say he did?

I agree with that. I don't think that the second base umpire should have ever even gotten himself involved into that argument. What was said between Wells and the home plate umpire belongs between them not the other umpires....

Wells should not b suspended becuase the conflict between him and the home plate umpire was over and Wells was ready to pitch again, when the second base umpire came out yelling at wells thats what made him explode.
