To be perfectly honest I'd be completely satisfied with Olerud/Youk platoon at first with Ortiz thrown in for good measure. With Olerud, at least he's consistent and has a great glove-- he contributes with the glove so it's easier for me to accept his offensive numbers.

 

Olerud would hit about .280/.380/.420 numbers which is acceptable considering his glove.

-olerud (not great offensive numbers though)

-petagine (producing at minor leagues, but not big on him)

- youk (move hime to first)

 

Let Ortiz play first (covered in another thread). Then anyone can DH

However, sustained mediocre spells, like the one we just witnessed, will put this team in a place that will make a playoff run a difficult uphill battle.

 

I agree. We need to improve in a few areas, well covered here already. I'm counting on Theo (who is up there with Red Auerbach IMHO) to address these. Other teams will try to improve before the deadline too. I don't think anyone here is saying the sky is falling. But there are weaknesses.

 

One other thing I haven't seen mentioned here yet is yet another injury. With certain positions not pulling their weight, it will only take one key guy getting hurt to make winning it all real hard. The Sox cannot be deep enough. Making the playoffs isn't enough. I want to repeat.

i agree with soxie very much so. ok well im just saying if you people keep talkin like this, im gonna have to see a lot of posts from yankee fans on here praising you guys for saying the red sox is going to falter and its better off next year.

 

 

You won't see intelligent Yankee fans posting anything, cause right now you guys are slightly better off than us. Are pitching is in shambles, are bullpen only has TanGorMo. The hitting is good, but if a starter is good it can be held down. So who ever gets a some decent pitching, via a trade or getting someone back from the DL will win. The only thing I don't get it why some Sox fans are so confidant? Yea your in first place but you can fall easily, its only 2.0 games( O's) and 2.5( Yanks). I think you guys should be relieved, (just like I am about my team) that your team is in first with all the bullpen problems you guys have been through.

ok believe me im as much in agreement as youk/olerud platooning at first as mucha s the next red sox fan but we don't know how Youk/Olerud would play if they were in the lineup every day. Many people have expressed concern over Youkilis' ability to hit if he was put in the lineup every day. I like Olerud as much as the next guy, but at his age I'm not sure I want him in the lineup everyday.

 

I certainly would consider trading Millar, but I would certainly not DFA him. If they traded Millar and brought up Petagine, I would certainly be fine with that, but I'm not sure we can count out Millar just because he's had a sub-par 1st half. Even with him in the lineup, they're #1 in the league in runs and OPS!, with that said i would do a millar/qualls trade in a heartbeat but the astros are not willing to.

ok why does everybody keep referring to me as one of the posters who so confident that im shouting out from the mountaintops the sox will win it all this year !!? which im not in the least, my posts on here have said im just looking it at one game at a time, i will think about september when september comes. phrase from Napolean Dynamite; "God!"
