Arroyo as a reliever makes much more sense than Wakefield. We've all seen Varitek's problems trying to catch Wake. You know how many guys are going to run on Wake late in a game? So a walk, steal of second and passed ball on Varitek gets a runner to third in the eight inning. No thanks.

Besides, Arroyo has been very inconsistent of late and he tends to get hammered (especially by lefties) second or third time through the lineup unless he has his absolute best stuff. You can get him in there for two or three innings at the end of a close ballgame and he can be great.

Regarding Mueller, he's a free agent after the year, Youkilis has been producing just as well and we need bullpen help. Forget all this "Mueller to 2nd" garbage, because it won't work. We need another arm and Mueller is our most tradable commodity.

You want to say Arroyo has been more inconsistant than Wakefield? I love Wake guys, but come on - he is the dictionary definition of inconsistant.

And in all the criticism in here of what I said, I haven't found anyone giving any reasons that the pen even NEEDS Arroyo. What's he going to contribute? Set-up? No... Timlin is doing just fine, and Mantai I think will end up ok given some more time. The real trouble is Foulke and Embree... and Arroyo won't be replacing Foulke. We need a hard throwing lefty in the pen to replace Embree... Arroyo won't provide that.

At least Wakefield can confuse batters in long/middle relief by completely changing what they are used to swinging at. Arroyo would be WASTED in the pen... I'd rather see Timlin-Mantai in late innings than Arroyo, and if he's only going to be the longman, what a waste.

Nope, I don't like him in the pen folks.

Money can change anyone. Is it just me or do you guys see a lot of similarities between ahhchon and gambit?

And what the f*** is that supposed to mean? I don't know Ahhchon, but I assume from the structure of that particular sentence that is some kind of bad thing. I'd appreciate it if you weren't a cock to me based on a couple posts in one thread.

As for Damon, he'll get paid just fine nomatter where he goes, and George won't be spending unlimited amounts like he has before. That's why he let Beltran go - he just didn't want to tie up that kind of money again.

hows this for something i just found out reading factoids of wednesdays game against the Guardians. The 2005 Red Sox have already set a major league record so far goin in teh first 71 games without ever havin to go into extra innings, previous record was chicago white sox at 69 games. very cool to know

Baseball isn't all about leadership and teamwork.

Um? Yeah it is. Do you think the Sox would have won last year if they weren't a 'team'? If that is your attitude, then you might as well end up like the Yanks, sign a bunch of talent, even though the players don't work well together.

Dude if anybodys high its you. Baseball isn't all about leadership and teamwork. You have to face the facts. Last year nomar was in the last year in his tract and acted like he was going to leave and where is he now? With the cursed cubs on the DL. Damon wants a long term contract and the red sox don't want to sign him that long. Also, george wants him too. So stop being such a stupidass noob.

wow, gettin a little uptight there over a stupid comment....

i gotta agree with everybodu else, the Sox would be much more content with keeping Damon around for the rest of the year and possibly losing him which would result in getting a 1st round draft pick (assuming that MLB ranks him as a class A or B free agent, which they will no doubt do) than trade him for a package of prospects and lose his leadershiip and defensive abilities, as well as his leadoff abilities

You know what I would like to see happen? Id like to give Cla Meredith another shot and see what he can do having some previous experience.

I think that's a very good idea. He is being groomed to be a future closer... he does have great stuff. He could certainly help.

But we still need a lefty.

i do think a 6 man rotation would be somewhat good cuz how awesome would this look

1. Schilling

2. Lilly

3. Clement

4. Wells

5. Wakefield

6. Miller

Embree is right now at best calling upon him in late innings when we have a lead. even tho he gout of bases loaded, who else cringed when he was called upon with no outs, he got out of it in nice fashion but i knew right away that shouldve been only inning for him, as he was charged for 2 more Guardians runs. Im thinking maybe sox can trade both embree and mantei for Lilly, be very cool

ramon vzquez should be another option to be traded off, not much of a strong backup as of late. maybe by doin that they can by august upgrade hanley ramirez or dustin pedroia to be slotted as the new 2B/SS backup, not too shabby

Tek can't catch Wake especially in late innings (see Zenny's post). Arroyo makes the most sense to go to the pen and letting Tek have every 5th day off keeps him fresh. As for Damon as much as people like to say they can't picture Damon in pinstripes it wouldn't shock me at all. If they offered him a large contract I would see him signing with them, personally I wouldn't blame him either.

Wow, that's harsh. 1) Damon will be around for the rest of the year. Just like Lowe, just like Pedro, they're going to keep the team that gives them the best shot at winning THIS year. I know Damon could get something on the market, but I also know that Theo will want the opportunity to negotiate with Damon at the end of the year. I would personally be SHOCKED if they traded Damon. Who is going to trade for Damon when his contract is almost up anyway? If we get someone of equal value in return, then it is likely that that person's contract will be up as well at the end of the season, leaving us in the exact same situation. 2) I think the fact that George wants him is all the more reason for us NOT to let him go at this point in the season. Damon would make the Yankees a GREAT lineup:

Damon

Jeter

Sheffield

A-Rod

Matsui.... yikes!

NO no no. Ahhchon is very argumentive and thats not a bad thing. And both of you put your names at the end of your posts. If you stick around considering the posts you've made then you'd have some real potential.
