Maybe the yankees cant watch but I sure can.

YANKS PROBABLY WON'T WATCH CHAMPIONS' RING CEREMONY

By MICHAEL MORRISSEY

April 11, 2005 -- Diamonds are forever, and this afternoon the Red Sox get the rings that prove their rivalry with the Yankees has been altered for eternity.

The moment Yankee fans have dreaded for months is here. Most of the visiting players say they don't care about the ring ceremony honoring Boston's "idiots" as world champions, which is scheduled to begin around 2:15 p.m.

Most of them say they probably won't watch it, because they'll be going through their final preparations for the 3 p.m. game.

Nevertheless, the Sox will be honored with World Series rings at Fenway Park this afternoon - and the Bombers and their supporters will hear about it for at least the next 86 years. "They have the right to do whatever they want," Alex Rodriguez said yesterday. "They're world champs."

The rivalry was inexorably changed when the Sox turned the Yanks into historic chokers last October, and the hardware arrives to prove it.

According to one report, the franchise will issue 500 rings to employees - although mostly on-field personnel will be honored today. The ring itself is reportedly white gold with diamonds and rubies and the traditional Boston script "B" on the top.

Jostens made the rings, and the word is that they could be more valuable than the gigantic diamond paperweights the Marlins issued after beating the Yankees in 2003. Those baubles were reportedly appraised at $46,000 apiece. Some Yankees seemed less thrilled about the subject than others yesterday. "I'll be getting ready for a game," Jason Giambi said.

"I'm not a big part of the controversy," Randy Johnson said. "You're asking the wrong person. What do I got, seven weeks as a Yankee right now? Go ask someone who's been here for 10 years or five years."

Bernie Williams, one of the Yankees who owns four rings, has no problem with Boston celebrating its first championship since 1918 while the Yankees are in town. At one point, the Sox considered postponing the ceremony for another day as a courtesy, and there was some issue as to whether the rings would be ready. "It's their Opening Day, so it's fitting," Williams said. "Why wait any longer?"

Williams and Derek Jeter don't wear any of their rings around. Williams said he's more of a watch guy, while Jeter is worried he'll lose his jewelry commemorating championships in 1996, 1998, 1999 and 2000. He locks them away.

Jeter has occasionally watched teams celebrate after they've knocked out the Yankees in postseasons past, but he has no plans to sear the memories of the ring-bearers into his mind.

"I don't really need extra motivation," Jeter said. "It's not something I'll go out of my way to watch."

He's not sure what to expect from the crowd.

"The fans seemed kind of upset the first nine years I've been going there," he said. "I don't know if they're going to be happy. I have no idea. I'm sure they'll come up with something."

Similarly, Joe Torre doesn't plan on watching from the get-go, although he conceded that he'd probably venture out to the dugout in time to catch the end. But he insisted again that his team is not avoiding it. The Yankees will forever be a part of Boston's 2004 miraculous comeback, but they're thankful they won't be key figures today.

"They're not going to wait for us to get into the dugout, if that is our plan, before they start," Torre said to laughter from reporters. "That would really be rude. But we'll see."

I know very classy, clapping too. I gotta say this is one of the rare times I regret a post I made. Hard to believe, right?

But the yankees showed a lot of class--my hat is off to them. It starts with torre, who I respect a lot.

it's 7-1 in the 6th, what a day -so far.

Yaz looked great, and god love pesky.

Do you think the red Sox would watch if the roles were reversed ? Probably not, so what is the big deal i don't think any team would.

Quit your whining you nutless imbecile t-shirt fan, and just enjoy the loss. BWAHAHAHAHAHA!!! Yankees suck. :(
