The Angels and Orlando Cabrera have agreed to a four-year, $32 million contract, TSN's Ken Rosenthal reports.

David Eckstein will be non-tendered as a result. The Angels had money they just had to spend and they didn't really like any of the starting pitchers still available. It seems it came down to Cabrera or Jason Varitek. It doesn't seem like Cabrera is enough of an upgrade over Eckstein to make this worth doing, especially since the team has no shortage of shortstop prospects. Still, it is an upgrade. Our guess is that Eckstein will land in St. Louis.

glad he got what he wanted, and again thank you!

I really liked OC (no secret). He will do well in Anaheim, and he is quite a bit better than Eckstein. Same speed, better D, better arm, better glove.

Eck's a lot better at fighting off pitches and working counts though... and is probably best suited at second because of his weaker arm.
