Beltran is one of the few genuine 5-tool players in the majors. Anyone with any doubt of that can just lok at his performance in the playoffs last year.

I'd much rather have Beltran over Edmonds. He's shown he can pump out the clutch hits, and has all the tools you could possibly want. I'm not saying he's anywhere near as good, but he's the modern-day equivalent of Willie Mays, in terms of the fielding, speed, power, and contact he offers.

The question was is he overrated, we're not talking about the money. I voted no because how good he is. You've seen his stats, he's an elite hitter, great fielder, and great baserunner. No question, he's just amazing, not overrated.

What a stupid question? How could the best, and most complete player in baseball today, and perhaps ever, be overrated? Sure, his asking price is way too high, but that doesnt take away from his skill. If someone wants to pay near 200 million to get him, they gotta take the monetary hit, while still getting the best player in the game though. He hits for power, average, gets on base, steals, and fields, five things that I actually dont think anyone else can do. Ichiro is close, but he cant hit for power. There is no way in hell that Carlos Beltran is overrated

every mlb player can get on base, steal, and field. if they can't they wouldn't be playing.

beltran will never give you more than 50 hr's a year, he'll never bat more than .310, never get on base .400, never slug .600, and will never have an ops of 1.000.

if he's such a great cf why has he NEVER won a gold glove?

OVERRATED

True, but he has come close do doing it, and he did it in a pitchers park of Kaufmann stadium.

In 2003 Carlos Beltran hit .307 posted a OBP of .389 walked 72 times and struck out only 81 times. His OBPS was .911. As a 25 year old.

He may not be worth 20 million because no one is worth that, but you can't say he's overrated

Of course nobody is worth $20m but you have to compare him to the players who actually make that, or make close to that like Bonds, A-Rod, Manny, etc.

And 2004 was the 1st time since 1996 that Kaufmann Stadium was a pitcher's park. And he still got to play 1/2 of his games in Minute Maid.

yeah? when a-rod was 21, he hit 36 hr, had 123 rbi's, stole 15 bases, had an ave of .358, opb of .414, slugged .631, and had an ops of 1.045. he also had over 200 hits, 215 to be exact, had 54 doubles, and scored 141 runs.

that is a great player, not beltran. beltran has had very very good years, he has NEVER had a great offensive year. he hasn't even had a great defensive year.

until the thought of beltran being traded he was relatively not known. he is a ONE TIME ALL-STAR. that was THIS YEAR, when he was traded. then again all star games doesn't mean a lot, but really, if you REALLY REALLY were that good you'de be an allstar more than once.

p.s.- in some thread i said beltran has never had a top 10 mpv, i take that back, in 2003 he was 9th in the AL.
