I hear Theo is talking a lot to Delgado's agent. Would he be good for the Red Sox? He has had an incredible career and his OBP is fantastic. I'm not sure of his career stats in Fenway but I'm sure he would be nasty there.

Doug would certainly be traded if that were to happen. Probably Millar as well even though I'm not sure who would want him or what we can get for him.

One more stat for those who say Wells sucks in Fenway. You do have to remember he had to play against the Red Sox in Fenway everytime he played there. I bet he has a good season. At least I hope so now that Pedro is gonna be gone.

we're in too deep. forget signing anymore big agents.

DO NOT SIGN:

tek, renteria, delgado etc.

SIGN:

polanco, trade/sign for a cheap catcher, trade for burnett, trade for hudsno and sign him long term. put the rest towards ben sheets in 06.

Mariners were going for Delgado, but it looks like we've signed Sexon.

I agree, Delgado wouldn't be a good fit in Boston.

neither do i..

Mariners might sign Delgado and Sexson.

Keep in mind, with Edgar Martinez AND John Olerud gone, they need a DH and first baseman.

Latest news has the Mariners signing BOTH, playing Delgado as their DH. However, the Orioles seem to be in on both players, even though Sexson looks like he's signed (or at least agreed) with Seattle.

I guess until things are official, this is going to be confusing.

I think the Globe mentioned that the Red Sox brief interest in Delgado had ended.

Update: Sources close to the situation have confirmed that there is no validity to the Los Angeles-based radio report that Carlos Delgado has signed with the Red Sox. Earlier today, Lee "Hacksaw" Hamilton, a host of LA based radio station XTRA Sports 690/1150 (The superstation) reported on air that the Boston Red Sox had signed free agent first baseman Carlos Delgado to a four-year deal for $46 million ($11.5 per year).

"Having spoken to an irrefutable source," CN8's Ed Berliner also confirms "there is absolutely no validity to the story whatsoever" and the source was "laughing at the LA radio report." The source did confirm that Delgado's representatives have been in contact with the Red Sox, but nothing is imminent or worthwhile to report at this time.

Does anyone know if the red sox have made a formal offer to him? And does anyone think that the sox will trade both millar and minky and sign delgado?

How can some of you actually say Delgado had a bad year?

.269/.372/.535 (due to an injury plagued first half), 32 HR, 99 RBI, 128 OPS+

89 runs created

Hit .305/.408/.625 /1.033 OPS with 22 HR in the second half.

If you project his second half numbers you get the real Delgado: .305/.408/.625/1.033, 49 HR, 140 RBI, 95 walks to 135 strikeouts.

Delgado's an incredible ballplayer, but we have 3 first basemen, and enough premier sluggers (Ortiz, Ramirez, not to mention the fact that a healthy Nixon and a consistent Millar put up some big numbers too.) That's the position we should worry about the least.

Manny, Nixon, and Ortiz don't get helped by Fenway.

But, I can turn around and say your pitchers will only be good because they play in Yankee Stadium.

Not against lefties...

And how does Ortiz not get helped by fenway? He can so easily hit the ball to the opposite side of the field (cough*roids*cough) and get an easy double with his slow feet? Manny is a great hitter no matter where you put him, but we'll never know how Nixon would do outside of Fenway on a daily basis, because he is a home grown RS. Suffice to say, He probably wouldn't be getting any of those home runs down the pesky pole in another park...

How about you look at road splits and Adjusted OPS+? Ortiz hit more HR's on the road and his road OPS was .982, and .984 at home. Fenway helped his average, but batting average doesn't mean anything.

yet when Beltran has a career .284 BA with a .267 avg last year, the stat means everything and he is not worth bidding for?

hmmm... a fringe guy on the twins is picked up by the Red Sox and hits 30+ HRs the next 2 years, and Fenway park as NOTHING to do with it?

Dude, what the f*** are you talking about? He still only had a .367 OBP.

he's a beter CFer than Damon, that's for sure.

Posted

I'm sure that could be attributed to the fact that he is healthy and playing everyday. Ortiz has averaged 600 AB's over 162 games the last year. Let's crunch some numbers here, shall we?

HR/600 AB's

2002: 29 (20.7 AB/HR)

2001: 35 (17.1 AB/HR)

And he was hurt both years.

Nobody said anything about Damon you dolt.

Posted
I was just talking about Beltran

And? You brought up Damon to start s***, and nobody wants to hear it.

Leave or add something to the conversation you ignorant f***.

If we trade BK, Millah and Minky we can get 3 decent prospects for the farm, plus trim about $8 million (we'd need to pay about $4 mil of BK's $6 mil).

Delgado will cost about $11 mil, so in the net we'd raise the payroll only $3 mil, stockpile prospects for a superior July package for Ben Sheets, and have a nasty BALANCED lineup:

CF - DAMON (LEFTY)

SS - RENTERIA (RIGHTY)

DH - ORTIZ (LEFTY)

LF - MANNY (RIGHTY)

1B - DELGADO (LEFTY)

C - TEK (SWITCH)

RF - TROT (LEFTY)

3B - MUELLER (SWITCH)

2B - BELLHORN (SWITCH)

This would drive managers nuts with bullpen management.* Any thoughts?

I'm not the one with the profanities

Maybe not, but you're still the f***ing homo.

David Ortiz was a castoff from the Twins because of his injury-prone past and the large raise he would've gotten in salary arbitration. You probably don't even know what salary arbitration is, you mentally retarded ass-pirate. Jesus Christ, you are worse than empire was.
