With the lack of money we will be spending this off-season it's highly unlikely, although possible that Soriano could sign... that would be nice.

We should only sign Pedro if the Yankees go after him. We need a quality lefty starter. Then we need to bolster the bullpen, beyond that, there's nothing much we can do. This was "the" team, we just didn't quite make it.

it's true, all those strikeouts really down the rest of your team. i don't care how high your OBP is, if you're a #2 hitter you should not be leading the league is K's.

ugh, i'm just depressed, it's my girlfriend of almost 2 years b-day and i can't even be happy for her because of the damn game. we were blown out, destroyed, made look silly. even then i had to watch it to the very last batter.

your exactly right acchon. and as much as i'd hope he'd be back next year, i highly doubt it.

IMO, the closer to the top of the order, the less strikeouts matter.

When there's nobody on base, an out is an out no matter how you make it.

I was a pretty big Bellhorn fan, but I now realize that he's a compiler. He hits and gets his walks off of weak pitching, just like Millar and Varitek. These three guys really aren't very good against guys who expand the zone or away from Fenway Park for that matter.

francona is weak little jelly fish spineless, f***ing dork.

Bellhorn sucks in the field and sucks at the plate. His f***-ups cost us dearly.

I am praying we get rid of him, but as you guys say that's highly unlikely. I am also praying we get rid of douche bag, but that is highly unlikely.

Pedro....pedro...pedro....

Well,

It's possible that Mark Bellhorn has been overmatched because he only faces good pitching. Mark hit .254 against the Yankees over the regular season with 19 strikeouts in 59 ABs. So, considering he's was .264 hitter in 2004, he didn't play THAT much worse against the Yankees than any other club. In fact, he's 3 for 9 in his career against Mussina with 3 Ks, 4 BBs, and a homer... so I expect him in the lineup (that doesn't mean I agree with it).

My guess with Bellhorn is that he's simply going through a slump right now. He's not this bad a hitter.

So the dilema is:

Do you let him hit ninth and hope he'll break out?

Do you replace him with Pokey Reese, who's got better defense, but very little offensive production?

It's a tough choice. If you take a look at Pokey Reese, he's struggled against Lieber, Kevin Brown, AND is 0-2 against Mussina. I'd venture to say a struggling Bellhorn is better OFFENSIVELY than Pokey Reese right now, and the lineup certainly isn't producing right now to the point where you can make that sacrifice.

Bellhorn's struggled with 8Ks in 14 ABs, and has a .071 average. But is he the only person to blame? I think not. Johnny Damon has hit .056 with 5 Ks and just 1 BB.... and this is our LEADOFF HITTER!

Both of these guys have sucked thus far in the series. It's not too late to turn it around for these two, and frankly... they are the Sox' best options.

I love the idea of Cabrera hitting #2 behind Damon... I hope Bellhorn hits 9th again.

you replace him with doug mientkiewicz who has some experience at 2B. now THAT would be a good move.

He still sucks

i second that. the fact that he had one good hit on one bad pitch from one bad pitcher does not make him a good hitter all of a sudden.

bellhorn was the hero last night and still sucks. Man, those strikeouts are a disaster.

But a broken clock is right twice a day,and he had to get wood on the ball eventually.

Jesus needs to get his s*** together in the meantime.

Oh come on. Even the best players who've ever lived have had their dry spells.

Bellhorn's dry spell just comes at a bad time.

How much more productive than Bellhorn has Manny Ramirez been? Can you say "Ramirez Sucks"? Sure, I knew you could. :harhar:

I cant say it, never would and never will.

but bellhorn does..suck that is...but I was happy with him last night--after he grounded into a double play with bases loaded or struck out, no it was the homer!!!!

That Clemens guy sure sucked. Good thing we got rid of that worthless worn-out bum. ;)

Seriously though. The bottom line is, almost everybody has been so bad that Bellhorn's one home run generated more than just about everybody else could take credit for. 3 RBI. How many other Sox have 3 RBI in this series? If Bellhorn sucks, a whole buncha other folks been sucking harder and longer.

Bellhorn started getting some quality swings last night.... maybe he's coming out of his slump!

That 3-run homer certainly didn't hurt....

Well, we know who's starting at second for Boston tonight... so we can only hope he comes through!

you make it seem as if we are judging bellhorn because of the alds and the alcs. WRONG. i'm talking about the 2004 season. bellhorn sucks. as a number 2 in the lineup you should never strike out that much. striking out is the worst thing in baseball. unless you're hitting 35+ homeruns you shouldn't be striking out that much.

he swings at bad pitches, he misses good pitches, he's simply strikes out too much. he needs more plate discipline, with that he will become a MUCH better hitter.

i'm not saying that bellhorn is the worst player on earth and we need to get rid of him. but i would love for him to have some discipline at the plate, unless he can do that i want to see him traded.

I don't mind Bellhorn. I really don't.
