Red Sox Magic Number for playoffs is 2.

6 games ahead of Angels, 7 ahead of Rangers.

Anaheim @ Texas 8:05 ET

For anyone still harboring hope, under MLB rules the Sox only need to tie the MFY in order to win the AL East without a one game playoff.

I don't have a lot of hope for the division, even if Minnesota sweeps the Yankees (and we sweep Tampa Bay) we'll still be a half game out.

We should have swept the Yankees, which would have made the division a lot closer to reality.

It would take a historical collapse on the Yankees part for the Red Sox to take the division.

We've got to play 4 games BETTER than them over the next 7 games. Much easier said than done.

I'm much more focused on the Wild Card at this point. If Texas beats Anaheim, and we win, we could actually clinch tonight. The Red Sox (of course) can't be worried about Anaheim though. If they can take 2 of 3 from Tampa (and if they don't I'll be concerned) they can clinch without help.

Let's focus on tonight's game, and hope the Sox can win and get one step closer to the playoffs.

Kazmir dominated us last time, let's hope the bats (coming off wo consecutive 10+ run games against the Yankees) can figure out Kazmir.

Arroyo's been as good as any Boston starter not named Pedro or Curt. Especially on the road. If he can get lefties out, the Sox should win this game.

The half game margin doesn't mean anything, it would go to a one game playoff. The Red Sox would have homefield because of the series advantedge. That's IF the Twins can do it, which they won't because of El Duque.

To hell with the division. All the Sox need to do is win one more and they're in. If the Angels lose one they're out. Break out the bubbly!!! I'm kidding. Last year we looked like idiots celebrating like that after just clinching the WC.

We should trade for Kazmir just so he never pitches against us again.

Too bad Tampa's not as stupid as the Mets.

umpires are lame as hell, it's so obvious he didn't hit millar on purpose. why would he. he was no hitting the sox through 3. that's just poor poor judgement. let the damn kid pitch!!!

dude, the kid is 20 and was no hitting my team. that's amazing. i don't care either way. we're making the playoffs. what we need to see is pitching from this kid to get us ready for some hardcore pitching come playoffs. sigh!
