my god, this guy needs a whole thread to himself. he's a machine, plain and simple.

from my what my seattle friends say ichiro can hit for power. supposidly they've been begging him to play in the home run derby for years now.

discuss.

7 hits away, 9 games to play or so. I say he'll definitely shatter the record. As for the homerun derby.....he's so small, I dont see him beating out the sluggers.

From what I heard, Ichiro can hit for power...he just doesn't because it'll mean he gets on base less. Which isn't necessarily a bad thing, because his AVG is ridiculous. If he dropped to .300 and started hitting for power, I don't think anyone will complain.

that's what my boys from seattle tell me. apparently during batting practice he'll just put on a show and knock balls out of the park like it is second nature.

this guy is just a machine. too bad he is playing in seattle and not getting the credit he deserves. he would be such a weapon on any contending team.

He has power, he just doesn't use it..he doesn't really need to. He gets up and sprays the ball to all fields.

What Ichiro has done the second half of this season is amazing.

He's hitting .412 against lefties

He's hitting .412 away from Safeco field.

He's hit .440 since the all-star break.

I don't get to see the man play (no TV) but his numbers are amazing. Not bad power numbers (23 doubles, 5 triples, 8 homers) for a leadoff man.

He definately is not a power hitter in his current role, but some players (especially the good ones) adapt to their spot in the lineup. As a leadoff hitter, it's not Ichiro's job to hit homeruns. It's his job to get on base. He does that at a .416 clip.

Imagine his numbers if he didn't "slump" in April and June?!? Both of those months he hit under .300, but he hit over .400 in May, July, and August, and has hit .386 in September.

Wow.

The guy can certainly hit the ball and I wouldn't be surprised if he makes a run at .400 someday. One thing to note though is Ichiro has a lot of infield hits. Not that I'm trying to say rhis diminishes the accomplishment, it doesn't, but I wonder how many of Sisler's hits were infielders in comparison to Ichiro.

sisler was more of a power hitter than ichiro. the season in which he set the former hits record he hit over 25 hr's (i believe, check the stats, i think it was 35+ but i can't really remember).

either way ichiro is a beast. having an average of .370+ with as many as bats as he has is SIMPLY AMAZING. he's so damn good. i would honestly take him over bonds on the sox.

I agree. his incredible on base skills + speed + defense + arm make him much more valuable than Bonds.

Take Bonds away from San Fran, and their worse than the Brewers. Take Ichiro away from Seattle, and they still suck. Bonds wins too many games by himself, to not be considered the MVP is just ridcolus

crespo, you're absolutely right, but on the sox i'de rather have ichiro. we already have PLENTY of players who can score other players. ever heard of a guy named manny and a guy that is just entering his prime named ortiz?

ichiro would be MUCH more valuable on the sox than bonds imo.

exactly, he's exactly what the sox needs. (other than PITCHING, i have a pitching fetish) outfield defence, a strong arm, good hitting, BASE RUNNING.

damnit, when is this guy a free agent?

as much as i enjoy having damon around i would much rather someone that bats for a MUCH higher average, has more hits, has better base running skills, is better defensively, has a stronger arm and is not overpayed.

having said that it would be hard to have ichiro on the sox, you would have to move manny to designated dh and move ortiz to first. that would just cause trouble with 1st base defence and other players like millar and dougie M.
