Zito

10-9, 4.58

sorry for starting this early, but this thread could heat up a lot of talk, as the other threads fire has almost been pretty much doused.

this series is a possible playoff preview with us going into oakland for the series. we face zito, who has spectacularly turned his season around. now with a +500 record, standing at 10-9, his curveball has more respect as it is still one of the most terrifying 12-6 curveballs in the majors. arroyo, too, has been hot recently with exception to his last start, which was at home, and which he does not do as well as he does on the road.

my prediction: a sox victory. this team is simply unbeatable, and is on a roll. with arroyos numbers without respect, he could easily be overlooked as not a challenge. our team beats theirs in almost every position on the field, and zito, even though he has turned it around, is not the same pitcher he used to be. remember, he is the pitcher we beat in game 5 of the ALDS, and there should be some emotions flowing on that field tonight. as we now have their former ace-closer keith foulke. this will be an interesting game.

GO SOX!!!

and caveman, should he start, will be interesting too. :damon:

Zito has been coming on strong lately, as has oakland as a team. They are only one game worse over the past few weeks where we have been tearing it up. Them, the cardinals and the sox are the hottest teams in baseball.

Needless to say this should be an interesting series. Hopefully tonight (LATE, damn west coast games) Bronson can pitch well and keep oakland to 5 or fewer runs. This team has such an offensive pop that I can legitimately see us scoring 8 runs off of the A's pitching staff.

From the mlb game preview:

Boston has played Oakland six times this year, all at Fenway Park, and won five of them, including a three-game sweep July 6-8. The Red Sox have outscored the A's 51-18 in their five wins.

That's certainly promising. If we have already outscored the A's 51-18, we have a good base to work from. We just need to continue. 2/3 games here should be good enough to gain a game on the yankees, and probably on Anaheim too.

The bad news is that Bronson was completely destroyed last time he faced the A's, his line:

May 27 OAK L 2-15 L	3.1 7 9 6 1 2 2 2 2 0 0 45.0 5.00 .232

and last time out he didn't pitch well either. I'd say its 50-50 with Bronson pitching well. Hopefully, if he starts to struggle, Francona will take him out before he lets up too much damage a la Wakefield.

In any case, this should be the most exciting series of the season.

Arroyo needs to throw strikes, no need to throw balls against the "Moneyball" because they'll just watch it for balls. Get ahead of the Oakland hitters, because this team doesn't strike out that much. Especially HATTEBERG  , damn that guy is a pest. I wonder if Swisher's going to start, he's really good with the bat too. My prediction tonight is a Red Sox victory, Ortiz is going to hit 2 HR's both of Zito, and Ramriez is going to add one too.

The game where Bronson got shelled by Oakland was the only game that I've been to this season. IT wasn't very enjoyable seeing as I probably could've seen the same players for the 2nd Half of the game at Pawtucket for about 50 dollars less.

didnt we clobber zito, Bronson needs a good start. He looked awful last time out, in fact the last two times, I think our bats saved his his ass before the other day.

Has anyone heard about Damon's status, I have always felt he is one of the most importannt components of our success. I saw a graphic once that our record is just phenomonal when he gety a hit.

I dont mind roberts in center but Johnny is just the man in terns of being leadoff hitter and a cataylst.

I am happier when he's healthy.

Other than his last start, in which he pitched better than his stats, Bronson has been really hot as of late. I'm looking for another good performance tonight.

The first game I heard was postponed, and they are now playing the second one. Their request for a forfeit was officially denied.

Thank God, that was such ********. I can just hear Steiny. "I don't give a good goddamn if there's a hurricane! We're the Yankees! Not being on time is disrespectful to me, the Yankees, New York and all the police and fireworkers who died on 9/11! *Cue heartattack*"

Ugh, yankees up 5-1 in the top of the 5th. It may not be feasible, but pray for a tampa bay comeback. I hate going into games knowing that we HAVE to win to stay competitive. It makes it so nerve-wracking.

HAHA LOL. i enjoyed that post zenny...unfortunately right now the yanks are beating the d-rays 5-1 because of penis (a-rod). they might as well call him penis...his names a rod for christ sakes.

 Thanks, man. The Penis (A-Rod) joke is hilarious!

I love math!

Carry the 4, add 3, take into account the Eric Byrnes stupidity factor and you get a win!

Hopefully no one here stayed up like I did...but great game. Those two controversial calls late in the game...kinda unfortunate. But oh well, they were both in our favor, so okay. Ortiz got that bases loaded 2B, sox win it 8-3. The bad news: Damon's on the DL (what else is new).

what a game huh?

gotta love the back to backs by manny and ortiz. did anyone see manny's face after trapping the ball. absolutely hilarious. who blames him? he did what the a's outfielder (don't know the chumps name) tried to do with a better acting job.

don't hate the player a's fan, hate the game!
