That Myers fellow looked good. Hopefully, Mr. Embree will either be shot or hang himself, I dont care which--and hopefully there will be enough rope left or a bullet will go astray and take out Adams. Williamson shoiuld be an unbelievable help and what about Mendoza, looking good. Which of course, means that Tony f***cona only uses him once a week. I mean why try and hold a lead or keep a game close when you can bring in Embree, adams, and lately Timlin and make it a convincing lose. If you wanna lose why not lose by a lot!

Starters going 6 or 7..relief keeping it close..sounds like recipe even a moron could handle. Hey, that means its perfect for our manager.

Lets make it two in a row tonight! Come on derek

This Myers deal went under the radar! It was simply a side-note on all the websites...but I think this deal will have a MAJOR impact on the Sox down the stretch. Why?

2 reasons: The Red Sox lacked a lefty specialist. Embree is a decent pitcher (despite what sarasoxfan says), but less effective against lefties than righties. Francona was using him in the wrong role, setting him up for failure (in my opinion).

Mike Myers is the classic lefty specialist. That side-winding motion is hard to pick up, and should help the bullpen solidify itself.

Reason # 2. The Yankees also lack a lefty specialist, and Myers didn't go to NY. With Myers on the Sox, it keeps him away from the Yankees clutches (and they WERE going after him). Without that arm to neutralize Ortiz, the Yankee bullpen (with the exception of Rivera and most of the time Gordon) is hittable.

Good pick up for the Sox.

I agree..

he has experience and last night was used (suurprisingly) well as a lefty specialist who came in and struck someone out, and that was that.

Williamson, Mendoze (did I just say that)-Timlin and well, now maybe we can hold some leads and/or stay in the game in the middle to the end of a game.

And sarasoxfan is right, oops, I am right on this one els, I mean come on embree is just god awful......and i'll bet his numbers would be even more revolting if you counted the runners he's let in that he inherited.

"the pitch by lefty alan embree, oh no it's another 95 mile per hour fastball, right down the middle...it's a drive...way back, and there it goes, another home run...." PU....

PS: At least I have shut up about bellhorn, you gotta give me that!

Myers was an awesome pick-up.

ive been saying this for a long time now, all embree does is throw 90 mph fastballs right down the middle of the plate...nothing special, easy to hit.

well, er,um, okay...okay..you got me. But if you overlook the reason why--you still have to admit I am not attacking him any more.

Let's just agree myers was a good pick up.

And how about Mendoza.....back from the dead.

Maybe there's hope for BK, after all.

I spell relief F-A-R-T...

Oh, we're talking about the bullpen. This team is stacked with some pretty good arms when they are healthy. The pen is the least of my concerns about this team.

I thought Rolaids spelled relief?

I have yet to see Myers pitch in a game (I seem to miss him a lot), so I can't really comment, but he certainly seems like a decent addition to an already strong bullpen. We dont have to worry about our bullpen constantly blowing games anymore, thats for sure. Just freak out about the starters. :(

"Our already strong bullpen"?????????????????????????????????????????????

What team have you been watching these past few months...............

I seem to remember our bullpen coughing up home run after home run,. walking guys in and losing lead after lead...I seem to remember foulke looking horrible.

My embree ( i couldnt resist-he probably is friends with bellhorn) pitched a couple of dandy's in minnesota recently.

I'd say at the moment the lack of bullpen relief is among one of our biggest problems.

Myers is definitely a great pickup. Now we have another lefty in the 'pen who has more experience than Malaska or Dinardo.

The 'pen will be fine. Sure they've been iffy lately, but I'm not too worried. When Williamson gets back in a groove we'll be all set. Timlin, Williamson, Foulke, an improved Mendoza, Myers and heck, you could always use Arroyo in long relief if need be (although I'd rather him starting); these are players any team would love to have, just any one of them and we have all five/six.

Let's not forget how much we hated last year's bullpen. Yet in the postseason it was our 'pen (although improved by that time) that carried us a lot further than we ever expected they would.

what am I missing?

where's the outpouring of anger and rage toward our bullpen.

I cant figure out why I vomit and shake uncontrollably every time I see embree, adams, leskanic, and timlin, et al....stroll in from the bullpen.

Is mine the only fist that is hurling towards the wall when these a -holes give up their customary two or three runs an outing.

I aint that good on stats but I know alan cost us a couple in Minnestoa, and Timlin defintely blew the game yesterday to name one. The both of them have combine for other disasters.

I know pitching in the league is scarce but what compelling reason is there to keep say embree around, he sucks against lefties, he cant get poeple out, he chokes and he just play stinks.

I don't think our bullpen "sucks", it has some flaws in it that are easily correctable. Kansas City's bullpen sucks.

yes, exactly

In the past I have been highly voal about our bullpen, bugt last night they proved me wrong.

Timlin was just masterful, mendoza and foulke.

It was beautiful....!

with bullpen work like that, it finally appears we are firing on all cylinders.
