Has Kevin Millar officially out lasted his usefulness? I saw in the Herald he's only a few plate appearances short of triggering an option for 2005 for something like 3.5 mil. What can I do to stop this?

I have to disagree that he is useless his stats aren't too bad

2004 Boston Red Sox 41 156 16 41 9 0 2 13 56 16 28 0 1 .343 .359 .263

Wait till Nomar and Nixon get back, then he will be better.

The only people that need Millar are the people that work for Tide. He goes to their testing lab every night to see how they can take all the stains out of his uniform and his face. Maybe he'll sign a contract with Tide instead of the Red Sox and make everyone happy, including the groundskeepers at Fenway. They won't have to replace as much dirt at every game he plays.

I see Millar's usefulness as a quasi-utility player. I don't see his value as a major leaguer eclipsing the $3 mil mark though. I guess he may have earned his whole contract's value last season having a terrific year for the Sox, but I don't see his career statistics (which are also pretty decent) going up before they head down.

I guess I'm flagging him as a "higher percieved vs. actual value player." This is a good thing though because that means other people may want him while the price may seem right. The opposite of this is something like the BH Kim situation where you have a crappy player getting paid too much.

Millar is far from useless, as I think we'll see when we can plug him in at first, let Ortiz DH, and put Nixon in RF. Millar's not a bad defensive 1B, and as long as you don't try to play him every day all year (we made that mistake last year), I think he can be a productive guy in the 7 spot. But he has no business batting 3rd, EVER.

I don't think he's anywhere near as bad as he has been playing recently. He's gone LOB crazy in the past few games, thats for sure. But we stole this guy from Japan for a reason. He's not a bad player at all. He can be productive in the 5 or 7 spot on this team as of right now.

When we get back to full strength (if ever, ugh, damn injuries), it'll do well to have him hit near the bottom of the lineup. But the guy has a .288 career batting average, which you can't do unless you're a somewhat decent batter. He may be a big overrated, this is true, but he isn't completely blown out of proportion.

Scabs always make great chemistry. Mix plenty of dirt, too much facial hair, and a big mouth and that's a recipe for 3.5 million.....PLEASE!

Haha, I can see from your posts and your username that you aren't a big Millar fan. :D
