One of my favorite things that Terry has done is give hitters the green light on 3 - 0 counts. So far, it has worked out well, such as on Daubach's game tying double. I think it's a great move, because you always get a fastball on 3 - 0, and especially when guys like D'Amico are throwing 82, most major leaguers can hit that pitch well.

I'm in the small minority that believe moneyball is complete and utter horseshit. Swinging on 3-0 is the best call any manager can give any player. You know it'll be in the zone for the most part, and you know it'll be straight. So why hope that the pitcher miss, or why wait for another good pitch to hit?

Dauber just got that hit as you said. I haven't noticed tito giving it that much this season, but maybe I haven't been looking that closely into it. There's nothing I hate more than a 3-0 count running full after two little league pitches float across the plate.

I applaud you, Fens. Although I do agree with Beane about draft strategy, I have been convinced (partially by yeszir actually) that the OBP stuff is crap. For example, stolen bases are rediculously underated, and I hate how some managers flat-out refuse to bunt.

Take, for example, a runner on first with no one out. If he steals second, a ground ball to the right side gets him to third with one out. Without the steal, a ground ball would probably get the double play. I ask you this: what is better, runner on third with one out, or bases empty, two outs?

Yes my disciple, that is true! Not necessarily JUST because of the scenario given, but because if he is succesful, its a runner in scoring position! Thats a run that you wouldnt have otherwise!

I don't really see how looking for high OBP and making productive outs/stealing are mutually exclusive concepts. I like Tito's habit of giving certain hitters green lights on 3-0 counts, provided that the pitcher is likely to actually get the ball over the plate. If there's an issue of wildness, then I'd rather have the Bellhorn-Reese-Daubach types take a pitch to get on base. Even if they don't get on base, taking the 3-0 consistently helps to work up the opposing pitcher's pitch count. At the same time, if somebody takes a 3-0 pitch and walks with nobody out, I don't see why you wouldn't have somebody like Damon, Reese, or even Crespo bunt him over with a chance for a single. You obviously don't want to have Ortiz, Manny, Varitek, or even Millar (lately) potentially wasting ABs with bunt attempts, but the others should be fair game for sacrifices.

Someone recently asked if Tito chews tobacco, i can confirm that he does

Lol, this seems completely random. What makes you say he does? And who asked?
