Tough call. I have been a loyal sox fan since 1972.My first sox game.Vs the California Angles. I was just a little girl at the time,so i dont remember too much.I do remember Cecil Cooper hitting a home run. Mike Nagy was the pitcher.

I go with Ted Williams, whom was way before my time. But he had the stats, hit over 400 BA and was the heart & soul Of The teams of the late 30's,40,s,50's and early 1960s. thats 4 decades. Wow..Plus 4 years in the military.

You spelled "Jon Lester" wrong. I'm sure you care about this a year after you posted this.

Mike Nagy looked like he was going to be a very good one for us. I go with Ted even though the Babe is on the list. Second for = Yaz.(1967) Never hv seen anything close to this.

I'd say if you narrow that list down a lot, it probably comes down to Ted Williams or Pedro. Best hitter, best pitcher the Sox have ever had. You probably have to do it that way: Best position player and best pitcher.

Foxx at 18?!?!  Behind Parnell, Nomar and Lester?!?!

Jimmie Foxx is so underrated in baseball history.  Second player to hit 500 HRs, and retired as #2 all time on that list.   He joined the Sox later in his career, but still played 887 games for Boston and had a 1.034 OPS in them.  Oh and he once hit 50HRs on a team that didn’t hit 100 hrs.  (1938 Red Sox) Pretty sure he’s the only name on that list in MLB history…

Ted Williams is my #1.

Yaz #2.

Who should be on that list is Frank Malzone. 3X Gold Glove and 8x All-Star.

Can't be the Babe, even though I think he's among the top 3 all-time in MLB, because he spent most of his years with the Yankees.  But with the Sox he was a terrific pitcher.

No one else comes close to Ted Williams, who once said the most difficult skill in all sports is hitting a round ball with a round bat squarely.   He didn't mention how fast the ball was moving or with what trajectory.

Only Ruth's hitting stats are better, and the Babe never went to war.  Teddy Ballgame missed 3 seasons because of WW II and two more (in which he played 43 games total) because of his combat tour in Korea.  In 1960 when he turned 42 he played in 113 games with 29 dingers and an OPS of 1.096.

If you base your answer on their contribution to the Boston Red Sox only then there is Ted Williams and everyone else far behind him.  If you ask who the most talented players were to ever put on a Red Sox uniform and play at least 1 game, then the answer is far more difficult.  I like Ted Williams the most BUT Babe Ruth had better numbers for several reasons including lost time to the military by Ted and Ruth pitching.  From a skill standpoint across the board, I think Mookie has been the most talented player when it comes to all aspects of his game.  That's why it was a travesty what ownership did to dissolve their relationship.  Many great pitchers have worn the uniform with Cy Young, Mathewson, Pedro and Clemens heading the list.  Papi and Manny in their hay day were incredible at producing in the clutch like Yaz.  Jim Lonborg was my favorite pitcher in 1967, but Tiant was the pitcher we mimicked playing whiffle ball.  Boston has such a great heritage to this franchise!!  That's why it's critical to the fanbase to see the quality of the franchise be returned to a 2018 level.  What should have been a dynasty extension turned out to be a dismantling of a champion run.
