Fair point - if the Sox contend this year my son will be interested but not as much if Mookie was here and if they are bad not having Mookie may cause him to watch less.

An argument can be made that baseball wise this deal makes some sense. PR wise things are about to get worse I’m afraid as Verdugos past (not sure we will ever know the full story) is coming to light.

Agree- I could live with 35 even slightly higher for 5-6 years . Does anyone really think Betts will be worth 35 mil when he is 35? He is no doubt a great player and not taking anything away from him but he has struggled in the postseason. He is my sons favorite player of all time and one of my favorites also but if someone can find me a position player who signed a long term mega deal,won and was at the top of his game for the duration of the contract let me know

Have to wait for the report but for now it does mean something to Red Sox fans. JD is considered a good guy and him saying that gives hope that nothing major or widespread was going on.Roenicke basically said the same thing .Assuming he wants the manager job he has to know if he gets it he is gone if the report is bad. There is also a report that Cora was fired because Henry was afraid to Sox could be faced with vacating the 2018 series and thought firing would help. We will all have to wait and see

Did bettors who bet on the Saints get a refund last year? Bad calls, cheating whatever good look taking something like that to court. Obviously the Astros had an elaborate sign stealing system and we will see to what extent the Red Sox had. See tweets and comments ( mostly from Dodger and Yankee fans)who want titles stripped,asterisk and so on. I am in no way absolving the cheating but so far most examples I have seen happened in regular season games. Now maybe one can argue it helped the Astros/Sox get a better seed but if the reports are true that in at least the Sox case they couldn’t use the replay room in the playoffs then the Yanks/Dodgers don’t have a beef in 2018. Unless some evidence comes out that something happened in the 2018 world series(other than Roberts mismanaging) Dodger fans need to stop making excuses. Again not excusing the behavior but we really need to find out A good estimation of how many times hitters were tipped to form a good opinion and come up with appropriate outrage. Was it certain hitters. Certain games,in what ballparks , playoffs, regular season, late game situations? In my opinion fans of the losing teams are using this as an excuse for everything, Of course the domestic abuser only gave up the HR to Altuve because of this, Yanks couldn’t have possibly to Sox in 2018 If they didn’t cheat. Fine with the firings and personally think players should have been disciplined too but I am waiting to dust settles and everything is investigated before making final judgement.

Not saying punishment isn’t justified or that I agree with cheating but in how many ABs did these guy know what pitch was coming? The Astros was more elaborate but it’s not like Altuve knew every pitch that was coming and anyway a scheme like this wouldn’t always work( what happened when a sign was changed mid at bat. Love to know some more details

Then might as well trade Xander and Devers because if all these guys are unloaded the Sox will be awful for 3-4 years . I don’t have the answers but for the Sox to reset and be competitive in the near future they need whatever fragile pitchers they keep to suddenly become injury free and for someone like Dalbec or Casas to develop into a star in addition to some Mil Pitchers to hit it big

The Rays made a bunch of trades and acquired good cheap talent. However keep in mind they were moving guys that didn’t make a lot of money-different story with the Sox

To me the hiring of Bloom means the end of Bradley,Betts ,Holt and JD. With a high payroll and weak farm system may not have to totally blow things up but need to take a few steps back before moving forward again.

True Astros were banged up but injuries part of the game. If Rice in 75 ,Evans in 78 and Lowell and Beckett in 08 didnt get hurt Sox could have conceivably won a title or advanced further in those years
